My eye sight is getting bad. I might need to wear glasses all the time now. I did use reading glasses and now needing glasses all the time. Both of my parents had to wear glasses in there late 40's all the time. Do you wear glasses all the time or just for reading?

This is actually an issue that is really starting to concern me. I feel you, Robert.

Lately, I struggle when I read. In Sunday School, for example, I haven't volunteered to read anything for the last several weeks because I can't see the words, and so I end up stuttering, tripping over my tongue, and generally jarring my listeners' sensibilities. I'm 41, but sometimes I feel like I'm over the hill already, and it's for reasons such as this. I'm a far cry from the man I was when I was in my 20s, when I had 20/13 vision, when I was overly energetic, always horny, fiercely independent, and ready to grab the world by its horns.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not anticipating old age.

Now, as someone who's never worn glasses before, I have a question or two. I hold print out at arm's length in order to see it. Does that mean I just need reading glasses? Can I walk into a dollar store and pick up any old pair? I have no vision insurance, but can afford prescription specs, I suppose, if I scrimp and save, but maybe that won't be necessary.

I'd appreciate any comments or advice (for Robert, too )

Thanks, TW. I heard once that some dollar stores carry them, and as long as they're OTC, I don't care where they come from.

I take it, then, I don't need to see an eye doctor? At least not until I've tried some 2-dollar reading glasses first?

I would try that first, yes, but if it doesn't improve right away, I strongly suggest getting your eyes checked... btw I've worn glasses all my life so it's not that hard to get use to

Agree with the above, good idea to go to get your eyes checked out by an optician anyways. As for me, have worn glasses for the last 30 or so years. So, I'm used to them

No glasses at all yet, heredity...both parents have good eyes.

BUT, I am already having hearing issues....again both parents had hearing issues at this age, as did some of my grandparents.
What?

I started with reading glasses only, also for use when on the computer.
Then a year ago I started noticing that signs while driving didn't come into focus until they got closer.
And the guide on the tv wasn;t as easy to read

Now I wear progressive bi-focals (no line) all the time...though for just watching tv I don;t have to

I have bifocals without the line, and they turn dark in bright sunlight. The eye doc, said to wear them all the time. If I have a bad headache and I'm at home I don't wear them. I don't like them at all.
I take mine off when I get headaches too..
the hardest part is keeping them clean all the time cause the tiniest blur or spec annoys me

Sorry, I think I wrote too quickly.

What I mean is:

I don't wear any glasses yet, at all. I went to the eye doctor for th first time earlier this year, just because I thought maybe I should. I was lighly chastized by the nurse for not having ever been to an eye doctor.

The doc tested my eyes, and said, "Your vision is great, no signs of any medical problems either. Check back about every 5 years unless you see any changes."

It's heredity. Niether of my parents needed glasses until thier mid-forties. My mother for driving, my father for reading.

BUT life balances itself, our family ends up with early hearing problems, and I am already noticing some changes with my hearing. I absolutely have the worste time in a crowded room.

Do I make more sense now?
