Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is there a recent comprehensive book on the evolving of hominids and when each group left Africa?

I was wondering if there was a comprehensive book in print that has the latest hypothesis on hominids leaving Africa. Which hominids ventured out of Africa first and where did they migrate to. If the hominids evolved what did they become and where did they go. And finally when the hominids in Africa evolved to Homo sapiens when did they leave Africa and which direction(s) did they go. All the way to all the continents having Homo sapiens.

Now, I do want to let you know some dates such as when Homo erectus left Africa (estimated around 1.8 to 2 million years ago) and Neanderthals (evolved from Homo erectus still in Africa and some outside Africa) left Africa (estimated around 550,000 years ago) and Homo sapiens (also evolved from Homo erectus in Africa left Africa (estimated around 100,000 years ago), I got this info from many different places. I've gathered bits and pieces from different websites but I'm really looking for one big book that throws all of it into one big colorful book filled with charts and graphs and map and everything else. Anybody have any good selections? I'll leave it at that for now. You guys usually have some good suggestion.

Seems to be a reasonable summary of Hominid evolution, starting about 7 mya and tracing development all the way up to the end of the last ice age.

You hit a homerun with your suggestion of "The History of Our Tribe: Hominini". Thank you for telling me about it. I looked through it and its got everything I was looking for about Hominid Evolution. Time to do some reading !

So, question: Where does the Oppenheimer class of homo sapiens fit in? I don't remember where that would be placed?

Does that classification perhaps belong beneath the rest of the planet of the apes?

Yes, being that I'm Gen-X, and because I'm a philosopher, I find the irony "funny" in that we've come this far in our evolution: putting ourselves on the verge of doing some major damage to ourselves. It doesn't get more existential than that.

1. Thank you for explaining the joke. It seems closest to version 4 of the 7 sub-text interpretations I came up with.
2. While there is some irony it doesn't penetrate far enough to reach my funny bone.
3. Is existentiality a discrete "condition" or one end of a spectrum. i.e. Can a situation be existential to a greater or lesser degree? Wouldn't that be a colloquial use of the term.

I get your reference now, but it still isn't funny or even amusing. There was nothing like speciation which occurred, just (if you would like) the entry into a new historical era.

The answer will depend upon our individual choice of existentialism ... so yes, it can be on a spectrum and subject to change its personal expression. It just depends on how much we think life and death are going to hurt.
