Who is the Beast? What is his Mark? Will Christians be here when the Beast starts to reign? What will happen? Understand Pre- and Post-tribulation Rapture Teachings.
The Beast is the end-time world-ruler who will reign over a ten-nation united Europe, with world-wide influence, just before Christ returns to reign over the world (Rev. 13 & 14; Dan 7).
The Mark is his stamp of authority which all his followers will be compelled to receive, whether they like it or not, as a mark of submission to him. The mark is a mark, or a stamp, or an emblem, or scratch, or chip, or tattoo, or injection, or seal, or inscription, or brand, or implant, or laser, to be placed in their right hand or in their foreheads. And no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the Beast, or the number of his name (666), (Rev 13:16-18).
The Beast will reign as beast for 42 months and will demand worship. He will blaspheme God’s name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. He will make war with the saints, and overcome them, and will have power over all nations. And all that dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names are not written in the Book of life of the Lamb (Jesus Christ) slain from the foundation of the world (Daniel 7:19-27; Rev 13:1-18, 14:9-11).
The Beast will make a 7-year Treaty (Agreement) between Israel and her warring neighbours, but he will break the covenant after 31/2 years, and take the role of a beast. He will take over the temple in Jerusalem, and demand to be worshipped as God, and impose his mark on the 10 kingdoms he is governing plus other cooperating nations.
The beast will control the world economy with his mark, because no one can buy or sell except you have the mark. All personal details on health, Bank, Passport, Business, etc, will be linked to the mark. The beast will aggressively contend with those who refuse his mark, and charge them of jeopardizing social order, public health, and world economy.
Will the Church be here during the reign of the Beast? There are two schools of thought: Both demand very careful attention and prayers for proper discernment.
1. The Church will not be here during the Reign of the Beast: Very notable Bible authorities like Finis Jennings Dake, et al, maintain a very strong position that the church would have been raptured off before the beast comes on the world scene, with very good reasons and scriptures.
Dake’s Bible maintains there will be 5 raptures in the first Resurrection:
1. Christ and the first fruits (1 Cor 15:23) 2. The Church (1 Cor 15:23)
3. The 144,000 Jews (Rev 7:1-8) 4. The tribulation saints (Rev 6:9-11; 7:9-17)
5. The 2 Witnesses (Rev 11:7-12)
The rapture does not need any signs to take place before it occurs (Matt 24:36; 1 Thess 2:19). It could occur at any time; it may have even occurred or may yet occur. The rapture is different from the second coming, and there will be at least 7 years gap between the two. In the rapture, Christ meets the saints in the air and takes them to His Father in heaven, while tribulation goes on below on earth.
The second coming, (Matt 24, Mark 13) has many signs. Christ comes with the saints to earth to fight and defeat the antichrist, and establish the Kingdom of God on earth. Again in 2 Thess 2:1-15 Dake maintains that it is the church that is withholding the revelation of the antichrist, and as soon as the church is removed (by the rapture), the antichrist will be revealed. He maintains that God has not appointed us to wrath but to obtain the Kingdom. So we won’t go through the tribulation. Dake maintains that a great revival will occur after the rapture of the church, and this revival will cause an innumerable multitude of persons seen in Rev 7:9-17 to come to Christ and be saved. They are the persons who go through the tribulation seen in Matthew 24.
Dake also points out that after the events of the churches in Rev. chapters 1 to 3, the angel of Christ tells John, “come in hither, and I will show thee things which must be hereafter.” (Rev 4:1). He maintains that the things from chapter 4 onward are “hereafter”, and are things which do not concern the churches because the church would have been raptured.
Dake and others maintain that Matthew 24 and Mark 13 do not apply to the Church but to Israel and others: the rapture has no signs whatever. (Please read Dake’s Bible for more details).
2. The second school of thought maintains that the Church will be here during the reign of the Beast: This is also a powerful scriptural school and maintains a stand that Matthew 24 refers to the church, and from there it is clear that the saints will be here during the tribulation. Christ’s coming obviously occurs after the tribulation (Matt 24:29-31) and the days of the tribulation will be shortened because of the saints (Matt 24:21-22). This school of thought maintains that God’s people have always suffered persecution, from righteous Abel to Zechariah (Matt 23:35), and that all the apostles were slain (except probably Apostle John). It maintains that from Revelation 6 to 19, it is persecution galore for the saints, and by the time the vials of wrath start coming from God’s throne in Rev. 16, the saints have been reaped from the earth (Rev. 6, 7, 11).
If the Saints are here during the Tribulation, then…: It is important for us to be cautious of what we take or what we allow into our bodies. It is expected that the Beast will rule for at least seven years because he will make a 7-year treaty between Israel and her neighbours (Dan 9:27). In the middle of the 7 years, he will break the covenant, and assume the form of the beast. Many think that the first 31/2 years will be a lesser tribulation period, but the latter 31/2 years will be the great tribulation.
In the first 31/2 years he may not be known as the beast but as an ordinary, may be more radical, ruler. It is possible that his mark may be in circulation during the first 31/2 years, but not vigorously enforced. This is why the church must be cautious, because the Bible declares that anyone who worships the beast and his image, and whoever receives his mark on his right hand or on their foreheads the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God and shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb… forever, (Rev 14:9-11).
Could it be that the beast is right now on the world scene, but unrecognized? Could it be that his mark is circulating now, but many have not recognized it? Remember that Satan is very crafty. He could create an emergency situation to force people to embrace the mark. Please let us all watch and pray.
