There are many ways to respond here, many important pts/keys
to share/discuss. Yet, every L, Post, debate (?) should begin and
end with the main pt, the main idea, the crux of the matter, the singular TENET.

Everything begins and ends with one way, one truth, one life, and that of course is Jesus of Nazareth, the Messiah, the Christ
(aka in orig hebrew: Yeshua Ha'Mashiach!).

If u cant agree with this, read/comment no further; for all else
is putrid sin before our FATHER GOD if we (dare!) appear before
HIM without Jesus' Holy covering blood over us.

that said.... i believe GOD searches hearts daily/nightly all over
the world in prayer, meditation, word/deed, etc, moreso than
the puny, limited agendas of political post de facto churches of
any denomination/name.

not that HE doesnt MOVE, or Inspire Churches & church members to hear/think/say/do things; HE does.

But i believe the Free will aspect may limit how well or effective
HE can be with us, as both individuals and as church bodies.
i.e., alot of mistakes/oops/messes to clean up after.

So one pt i wish to make here is: Catholisism has/had its place
in God's plan for mankind, both past & present. It carried the
ball so to speak, near Christianity's beginnings (was originally
a reformed Jewish sect that started things for all of us; minus
alot of foreshadowing Law and Rabbinical additions etc).

God used early church sporadic (wild?) outgrowth from early
church fathers to Constantine period (& afterwards) despite
their faults, errors, etc, to grow HIS church.

Same can be said of Protestantism that followed as well.
Luther & others "played their parts" too, as it were.
U can see both positives/negatives in all churches & time
periods. seems to me, that in God's grace, HE uses them
(us too) in spite of their short comings, or makes something
good out of the Templars, or the Dark ages, or King Charlemagne, or, or, or.....

if HE tarries long enough, i presume history will record many
many revivals and (more importantly, here) reformations that
many here cannot or will not see, or agree with/to.

I think its okay to discuss calmly/rationally re: history and its place or bearings on todays status....sure. But i hope not to
see too many more wasted hrs on doctrinal arguments that
only keep the body of Jesus Christ separated and somewhat
ineffective to FINALLY make disciples of all nations quickly.

sure, lets share. maybe u know something i dont, and vice
versa. but if u r gonna beat up a Catholic for praying to Mary
mother of Jesus, or chastise a Protestant for copying most
Mass rituals/teachings etc, then we're wasting time n effort n
resources OUR Lord Jesus gave us while we're here, still breathing TOday, while it is still toDAY.

For God is not hebrew, catholic, protestant, etc and isnt subject only to any or all of their (our) doctrines just cuz he's blessed any & all members of any denomination, past or present.

We need to come together with Jesus as the head doing all the command control kinda stuff. not the arms legs lungs stomachs etc. Pray for this, as well as the speedy disicipleship of the world.

You understand that Luther was not Bishop so he could not ordain neither priests neither Bishops and not being ordained, probably they could not perform Holy Liturgy for food for eternal life.

So you're taking chances.

Why not come to the Church established by Jesus in year 33 that has everything Jesus and Apostles taught, Eastern Orthodox Church. Read "abc to eternal life" on google.

Anyhow pray this, asking God for truth:

Dear God please show me the truth of all religions, force me and humanity to salvation and force me and humanity to the true Religion for eternity.

Don't play dice with food for eternal life. To see how strict things are, on a place Romano Catholics forced orthodox priests celebrate together Holy Liturgy and God destroyed the Church with people inside, killing them. Two Churches were destroyed one after another since first message was not understood. I am speaking about Romano Catholics that are closer.

There are huge differences between Protestantism and Catholicism. I don't know what obligation some have with trying to downplay it.

Protestants do not go by apocrypha, which presents many differences right there alone. They do not believe in purgatory, tradition, confession to mediators, etc.

Protestantism was not meant to say Catholicism was wrong, but to indicate that one does not have to follow all of what comes with it.
Therefore, Protestantism shouldn't really be called schismatic because they evolved into an entirely different standing. A reformation.
This is what happens when people differ to a more aggressive degree. The Catholic Church has it's dark history.

There are differences and similarities. True. I guess I'd say generally speaking that the RCC and Protestants share a Western mindset about God and Faith that is different from the Eastern Christian mindset.

I very much dislike High Anglicanism, its all about the clergy and not equal fellowship between brothers and sisters in Christ.

RC's tend to start with a kind of high Anglican set up and add stuff (in my understanding)

I hate any man wearing priestly cloths- as though he's more important than somebody in the congregation (Jesus never dressed above men)

And last I find the idea that Mary is the mother or god disturbing, (can you call Joseph the father of god?)

Just a thought...

The short answer is that there are huge differences between Catholicism and Protestantism. I don't see how that's not obvious for some. Protestants don't even agree with each other, to boot.

Don't forget that Anglicans also believe in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

The question of this thread is an interesting one and I have gone back and forth on it in my own mind countless times. However, in the final analysis, I will say that as long as most Catholics and Protestants now consider each other to be brothers and sisters in Christ, then really their faiths cannot be all that different. This could not be said probably 150 years ago, when most Catholics and Protestants apparently believed that the opposite sides were doomed to Hell.

Is Protestantism Really All That Different Than Catholicism??......
