Is masterbating considered a sin?

1. Was the sin also because he wasted his seed?

2. Does God consider seed alive or a component of life? Sperm does swim.

I'm not trying to be gross but I remember my old pastor talking about this in church about 20 years ago.

2. I don't know, but there is no biblical basis to believe so.

It directly says why he was killed by God. Because he didn't impregnate his brother's wife. That's it. Has nothing to do with masturbation.

As for your second question, I don't know as it's not addressed in the Bible.

As I stated in my first reply, I come at this from a married man's perspective. If I am only thinking of my wife, then there is no sin involved because I cannot commit adultery against my wife with thoughts of her only.

It had nothing to do with his seed. But those who would like to find some Biblical evidence to make masturbation a sin will go to any lengths to do so and that what I suspect your pastor was doing. He was punished for his disobedience.

I agree with this statement. If you only are thinking of your spouse while doing so, then it is not adultery.

What about it? The Levitical laws were not in existence yet at the time of Onan. As Christians, we are not bound by them now. I don't see how they could be relevant to this conversation.

Leviticus Chapter 18

6. None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover [their] nakedness: I [am] the LORD.

Also we can still read the old laws to inspire us to deal with issues.

Deuteronomy Chapter 20

7. And what man is there that hath betrothed a wife, and hath not taken her? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.

Lusting after you wife is "permissible", especially after reading Song of Solomon & 1 Corinthians Chapter 7 but the end result of masturbating is still an unclean process. If the wife is involved its still unclean but the sin is voided.

It's just a simple fact that masturbation is not condemned as an act itself. It's the thoughts that accompany the act that lead it into sin.

As a married man, if my thoughts are of my wife alone, there is no sin in that.

What about it? I would hope every couple would wash after intercourse but that's got nothing to do with masturbation and we are not under those laws.

If a non-believer wants proof in the bible that states incest is a sin would you point them to the Old Testament?

If, "yes", would tell him that law is active today or that has been voided by the new testament?

I can see by your question that you are really desperate to try to prove your point. The Levitical laws were for the Jews. No non-believer would ask such a question and I wouldn't have to go to the Bible at all as incest is against state law and would be a crime. Committing a crime is a sin.

So you keep saying - but I disagree. Interestingly I ahve heard people say the doctrine of the trinity is not addressed in the bible because the word 'trinity' is not found in scripture as well - but I also disagree with them, as I am sure you do. My point being we do not need a certain word to see a certain teaching. The bible often asserts positives, telling us how to behave - it does not always specify all the negatives except in the braodest terms, it it did that it would be a huge book! The subject is addressed when one wants to see it.

No, but becoming addicted to that pleasure (the endorphine rush) certainly is - which is what I said! Further more, if there is no lust involved in the act where does teh desire to perform the act come from I wonder?

I'm not endorsing it but you can't go to the other extreme and make the act a sin.

Really? So to your mind it is a morally neutral act is that what you are saying? I am sorry I just cannot look at it that way, the scriptures positively tell us the appropriate place to express oneself sexually and that is only within the marriage union - every other sexual expression even down to owndering eyes is severely frowned upon by the word of God.
