Rap that consist of talking about drugs, sex, girls in a negative way, dead presidents, killing, etc. is something a christian shouldnt be listening to because all that we do should glorify God and music that consist of those things isnt glorifing God so you shouldnt listen to it. Like i said, just stick with Christian Rap because it has a positive message and you dont have to debate about it being right or wrong. Real Rap is rap that glorifys God and speaks positive about his name and dosent contain the GD word all in it. The lyrics are true and real, now that can be considered Rap. Everything else is just lieing on a mic.

Christian Rap, Hip Hop, Urban styles and the like are soul Music for some people, myself included... I thrive on Paul Wright, TobyMac, KJ-52, Grits, John Reuban ect. The words lift my spirit and allow me to praise Him in awesome ways. I believe, and I know I'm not wrong at this, is that the musical style doesn't matter, whether it be old organ music, Rap music, bluegrass, rock 'n Roll, or <insert genre>. The important part is the lyrics. I confess, I listened to Eminem and Maroon 5 ect.(no offense meant to those who do listen to them), and I cussed right along with him. I totally shot my mouth off to my parents and my sibs. Now... I ONLY listen to Christian music. If it's not glorifying to God, then it be glorifying the devil and we can't have that now can we? After all, OUR God is THE God of music (see stories of David dancing and praising and Solomon and various other Biblical peeps.).

Peace in Him,
Sharon

Hmm...

Should it be in our position to judge others? Hip-hop/rap is a cultural identifier - urban culture. Keep in mind that this style of music, which would be considered to be aberrant several decades back, is now mainstream, especially amongst liberals.

But it is NOT for Christians to listen or even enjoy the music style, as there is nothing wrong with it. Albeit, MOST of the rap music out there is evil (I ALSO confess - I used to be a big fan of Eminem. God help him...), but Christian rap (although I haven't listened to it myself) is something that should be honored in my opinion, for it gave light to a seemingly dark and evil genre of music. the enemy now has less grip on the genre, since Christian rap is gaining momentum amongst Christians and non-Christians alike.

If you need to resort to some other reasoning, then think about how rock and roll was accepted by mainstream (back then the big band music culture) when it first hit...

In Truth,

Vincent

That's a really idiotic statement that I doubt you can back up. To say that all rap artists have no artistic merit is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. You are 18, stop acting like you are 12.

Take a joke.

I was being sarcastic, but I've heard people say that before. Anyways, I love rap. Most of it seems unoriginal and dumb. *where they talk about their woman and possesions* but stuff like Eminem *cause it's so angry!* and Deltron 3030 I'll listen to. I also like MC Chris cause he's such a nerdy white boy. *he does voices on Aqua Teen hunger force, brak show, and Sealab 2021*

Anways, I'm not acting like I'm twelve.
