philN said:Christian music and poetry are trite, predictable, and are spiritual milk. There is very little substance in them. Very rarely am I challenged or built up by reading or listening to them. If you can get something out of them, then by all means, do so, but I find myself disgusted by the state of christian art nowadays.
philN said:Do you think God is at all offended when you say that He is sovereign in all areas except for in music, art, and television? Doesn't really sound like sovereignty to me.
blackwasp said:No, God is sovereign over all.
Freodin said:It´s so easy:
Switch on the TV.
Get down on your knees and pray: Holy God, if you don´t want me to see what is on TV now, please smite this TV set with your Holy Wrath.
Wait.
If no smiting happens, enjoy the show.

No wonder a lot of people would rather die before becoming christians.
If God Himself is unable to guide people as to what to watch on TV, I sure as hell am not going to take that job.
My job isn't to point people away from The Simpsons, but to Jesus. He will teach them everything they need to know. I've felt the Spirit nudge me to get rid of certain things in my life, I started feeling like "I don't like this anymore, it's not good for me." God I can trust.
But when I started listening to preachers telling me what belonged and did not belong in my life, I ended up burning almost my entire music collection in a fit of misunderstood spirituality. That's what men's commandments will do to you.
I will NOT leave it to another person to determine what I watch, eat, read, or listen to. God is perfectly capable of doing that Himself, and He does it in a nice way.
If it makes you laugh and it's not the Bible or church, then surely it is a sin.dialogue said:I think, it is the precisely the existence of threads like this one that make the Simpsons funny...
I see no harm in laughing at something that is created to entertain. Unless it is considered sinful to be entertained...
