Is it OK to disobey?

Well based on these verses, I dont think God was thinking of a one-piece band (organ music) and solemn faces when he said "Praise me".

¥ Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings. (Psalms 33:2)
¥ Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp. (Psalms 149:3)
¥ Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!Ó (Pslams 150:4)
¥ Play skilfully with a loud noiseÓ (Psalms 33:3)
¥ Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth; Break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises. (Psalms 98:4).

To me stringed instruments today can mean electric guitars. And there's shouting, dancing and plenty of loud noise!

but i do believe that if you are in a church that doesnt lift hands, or dance, and you do these things and stick out like a sore thumb causing distraction, then you are not acting in love. IOW find a church that "allows" these things and everyone else is doing it.

Very good advise Andrew! To do it in a church that does not allow it is rude and out of order. Go with the order of the house or find another house.

So what about some of the other areas where we know that we are doing the opposite of what God says.

Such as lying.  Is it ever OK to lie?  Or, like someone on this thread said, people making vows and then breaking them.  Is that OK?

What do you think?  And why.

I'd say that lying is almost always wrong. However, under extreme circumstances, I would call it a matter of conscience. Some moral dilemmas are beyond human abilities to comprehend completely.

As to a vow, one must ask the person to whom they made the vow to dispense them of the obligation. Vows to God are probably the same as lying.

Regardless of whether one fulfills a vow or breaks it, it is wrong to make a vow lightly.

Somewhere in the Bible, I know it says, not to make promises that you can't keep.  And if you do, then to your own hurt, you are to keep the promise.

I can't even remember enough of the wording to find it in a concordance.  Does anyone else out there know what I'm referring to and do you know where it is?

Here are a few verses that address your statements:

Deut. 23:21-23

When you make a vow to the Lord your God, you shall not delay to pay it; for the Lord your God willl surely require it of you, and it would be sin to you. But if you abstain from vowing, it shall not be sin to you. That which has gone from your lips you shall keep and perform, for you voluntarily vowed to the Lord your God what you have promised with your mouth.

Eccl. 5:4,5

When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it;
For He has no pleasure in fools.
Pay what you have vowed -- Better not to vow that to vow and not pay.

I'm sorry Louis, but I don't quite follow your answer.  What do you mean by fragments?

I think that it's never OK to lie.  However, I've heard some christians refer to telling "white lies" and I'm wondering what is meant by that.  I know what the unsaved mean by that.  But if it's a Christian, under what conditions do they do it?  And, what do they believe God thinks about it?

The Apostle Paul is pretty clear on this one.

Galatians 6:7
    Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

To many deceived people are mocking God today and very soon that is going to come to an end. He will show who is and who is not approved. Only those who are appoved by God, will have the power of God.

We need to get back to basics, we all need to study the sermon on the mount, the greatest sermon that was every preached.

Matthew 5:19
    Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

If we are not able to keep all the commandment yet, then we need to be careful not to give people the impression that somehow that is ok, and that we are getting away with something when the Bible is clear that we get away with nothing.

He is just being patient with us, waiting for us to come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:9
    The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

I guess the reason my approval rating is so low, is because I write posts like this one O well.

I don't have any problem with your post.  In fact, I agree

How about some other thoughts out there. 

What about where we pretend everything is righteous in our lives but yet we have that secret pile of magazines hidden where we think no one see's?  Or, we have a whole other life outside church on Sundays?

I know people struggle with things but what do you think God thinks about it?

how about when your wife/sister/friend asks "does this dress make me look fat?" and in your opinion it does . . . .what do you say without lying? Or hurting them or making them angry? 

or

your husband/brother/friend asks "do you like my new truck"  and it's a small pickup with tires larger than the truck itself and in your opinion you think it looks rediculous and a total waste of his money. . .what do you say without lying? Or hurting them or making them angry?
