mount saint joseph abbey of roscrea in ireland is the most beautiful monastery that I have been in my whole life and I have finally decided to join. It is like a full time ministry of prayer

They are recently looking for new novices or people to join as the place is huge and the numbers are small. It is a very relaxed monastery as they do speak now and the food is incredible and the work isn't so much now.

If you are thinking about vocations, maybe the monastic life is the one for you.

You are welcome to come for a visit or simple retreat to see the place or simple see if it is something that would suit you.

God bless

Hallo Monk26,

It is a very different form of calling to that of 'priest'.
I found myself living as part of a more dispersed community working in a local church and serving a local community. It is great to have a 'religious family' to go back to for R&R and prayer.

Have to admit I do enjoy spending quite time with Trappist nuns.

This is not about 'locking yourself away' for i assure you the 'world' is just as much in a monastry as it is anywhere else in this fallen world.

It is a specific call to serve in prayer.

Most pray for those who know Christ to keep Christ, for those who do not know Christ to come to know Christ and for the people who suffer in this fallen world to know Gods blessing and hope.

Many offer safe places of retreat to those in need, many work as spiritual directors and 'go out' to visit the world to share Christ to use Thomas Merton's phrase and they work to support the Church (not simply a denomination but all who love Christ)

Really? How many nonChristians are there in a monastary for the monks to present the Gospel to?

Thomas Merton? The New Age guru?

It not like we monks are completely cut off from the world and have no interaction with it. We have a guest house and serve the poor. there is a school here and people or groups have lectures and seminars here. The monks work is to pray for the world. It is a different calling. It is a calling like the community life seen in Acts when all the Christians lived as a community and shared everything.

If I had not read your first post, I would have immediately have said that being a monk in a monastery is the most unbiblical lifestyle out there.
But seeing that you've stated that you would 'go out' I can hardly call it a monastery.
The commission Jesus called was that we all go out and tell the world the gospel of the Saviour, and of course that we help each other out as each of us have need.
So I find nothing wrong with you being a monk, for whatever is in a title... but one thing about the prayer. I know that praying for the world has no wrong in it, in such a manner especially as to pray that those in Christ stay in Christ and those who do not know Christ to come to know Christ and for the people who suffer in this fallen world to know Gods blessing and hope, however I would encourage you to pray specific prayers. It's one thing to pray for the world in a broad since, but sometimes the saints of the world need prayers of encouragement, healing, and blessing to move from one place in their life to another, even for the answers they have questions to.

I encourage you in your calling if it is truly from God, but I also encourage you to be especially as united with the people as Jesus was.

Hebrews 10:24-25
24And let us consider and give attentive, continuous care to watching over one another, studying how we may stir up (stimulate and incite) to love and helpful deeds and noble activities, 25Not forsaking or neglecting to assemble together [as believers], as is the habit of some people, but admonishing (warning, urging, and encouraging) one another, and all the more faithfully as you see the day approaching.
