In the Garden of Eden God only commands Adam to not eat of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil (or he would surely die) and gives no such commandment about the Tree of Life. Following Adam's disobedience God says, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever."
In Jeremiah 33:25 it says, " [God established]...the fixed laws of heaven and earth," So am I to assume that decay (laws of thermodynamics) was in play before the fall and that death was possible prior to the fall? So what of the death following Adam's disobedience? Was it physical, spiritual or both? Was Adam eating of the Tree of life prior to his fall, to somehow sustain his life?
I know there is probably no ecumenical answer as this maybe pivotal in the debate between old and young earth creationism. I was just curious if someone had a biblically coherent theory.
