• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hey yall,

sorry I haven't posted anything in a while.

just wanted to update you on a few things I have learned.

If it is one thing I have learned about OCD, it is this...:

IT IS ONE GIGANTIC WASTE OF TIME!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, tell me if this sounds familiar to you.

You wake up, try to have breakfast, have a random thought, have a spike (the beginning of the obsession), do your rituals for the time, come BACK to that thought, do your rituals, rinse and repeat for the ENTIRE DAY.

Seriously, that is time that could be used to do something fun. BUT NO, a disease that we never asked for gets that time.

I am NOT trying to downplay OCD symptoms or make fun of sufferers. My point is that these random thoughts don't define you. The anxiety doesn't define you. Your characters and your morals are strong and God understands that.

Who else thinks that OCD is one GINORMOUS waste of time?!?!?!?!

Good, going through some things.

Your right, it is something out of our control.

That is what I have learned throughout all of this stuff.

But what you CAN do is shrug it off for the randomness and the stupidity that it is.

Next time you have a spiking thought and start up with your rituals, think deeply about that thought and think "Pff, whatever."

Expose the thought for what it is, sheer utter OCD randomness. Put yourself above the thought. That is all these things are, thoughts. They do NOT define who we are or what we are like. It is ok to have worries and doubts, everyone has them. Just don't focus on them to much. Go day by day and after a while, you will start to figure out what to do with your life.

Do you need prayers?

Prayers would be awesome brother, I just struggle with this stuff and I feel helpless and like the only thing I know how to get rid of it temporarily is to give in to it. I feel like God's grace won't cover me, even though I know it will. Sometimes I just feel like I'm not genuine enough in my relationship with God, but it's not by works that we are saved, it's by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, and i have faith that He is Lord, that He died for me, that He was and is perfect and is my Redeemer! Sometimes I just want to be with Him so bad, but I would like a family one day before I die, but sometimes i think i would surpass that just to be with Him in perfect rest and permanently away from this ocd.

Believe me my friend, I've been there.

I have had those "departure" types of feelings.

My job hunting hasn't been going well, and sometimes I have said to myself "If I don't wake up tomorrow, that would be fine." Along those lines.

But think about your loved ones. Think about God and what he wants you to feel. The fact that he lead you to discover that you had OCD is a step. It means that you now know your enemy and can learn how to overcome it and not worry.

Keep strong my friend. Only when HE decides, on that day our pain on earth will end.
