Of course, they're all "criminals." But Rock's point was that many people who answered the polling question are more concerned with those who committed crimes after they got here, which makes the polling question something of a bait and switch.
Maybe you missed this part:

Sure, I do, too. I said that already, but that question is a bait and switch in it's way, too. Sure, the border is closed as far as you are concerned because asylum seekers and refugees are no longer allowed in, but I think most people who answer the question would assume it also meant closing the border to trafficked illegal workers who are exploited by corporate enterprise.

I'm surprised that support for deporting criminals that are in the country illegally isn't higher.
I think that many would just as soon see them tried, convicted and punished for the crimes they commit here rather than just being deported.

I'm aware. But again, that's not what most people think of when you say "criminal illegal aliens". They think of people who have committed crimes other than being in the country illegally. To pretend otherwise is disingenuous.
Maybe you missed this part:

You'll note that I said "both of those questions are about specific aspects" - so no, I didn't miss it. I just didn't feel like it necessitated explanation, given that's it's clearly talking about one specific part of the administration's strategy. Someone who thinks this aspect of the plan is a good idea may (as BCP pointed out) have a different perception of what it means to "close the border," or they may approve of that specific component of Trump's plan (working to prevent more illegal immigrants into the country) while not agreeing with the rest of what is going on (e.g. the deportation of people who have done nothing wrong other than be present in the country without legal authorization, or the cancellation of asylum claims, or the ending of humanitarian parole).

It probably has something to do with the census, and gaining seats in sanctuary states, through non-citizens. So much for Democracy.

Those are who this Administration is targeting. Sanctuary cities are turning hard criminals back out onto the streets; but hopefully Bondi puts an end to that soon.

“I just sent Sanctuary City letters to 32 mayors around the country and multiple governors saying, you better be abiding by our federal policies and with our federal law enforcement, because if you aren’t, we’re going to come after you,” she told a Fox News reporter.

Preliminary data from July 2025 confirms that illegal crossings have collapsed to all-time lows. Apprehensions along the Southwest border for the entire month of July were lower than the daily average under the Biden administration. This is also the third consecutive month with zero USBP releases into the interior.

Thanks Homan!

Looks like he's capturing all the amateurs. Good for him, but he may not be the man MAGA wants for the job after all. I saw him on TV right after that staged raid on the marijuana farm. There were children being exploited on that farm and he knows there are other children being exploited on other farms that he has to leave alone, and I don't think he was very happy about it.

Yes what you say can be true. But someone who follows the laborious legal process and meets the requirements legally deserves citizenship more than someone who just ignores the law and enters illegally - their first act as a prospective citizen to commit a crime. How can someone, whose first act in the country is to break it's laws, be trusted fully?

I know people who have migrated to this country legally and have gone through ten years of jumping through hoops, following the torturous process, some have been through horrible situations in their home country, but they endure and follow the law. I know an African brother who's entire family was murdered in the Congo and who would face the same fate back there, but he's going through the legal process step by step by step as a person of integrity. What are we saying to these law abiding souls if people who ignore the whole process receive the same treatment? How can a society survive with two tier laws?

God Bless

I know it's popular for Trump's proponents to reframe that by stating that anyone here illegally is technically a "criminal," but that's not how most people think.

no, I didn't miss it.
Then if you really believe that most people think that it OK for criminal aliens to be in our country; why do you suppose that most people support closing the border?

Why should we include, indeed, prioritize people who have been physically admitted by border officials, or invited and transported here as refugees? They think they are here legally even if you don't, which is why they show up to fake hearings set up by ICE only to be arrested.

Then if you really believe that most people think that it OK for criminal aliens to be in our country;
I'm not sure how that follows from what I said. What I was pointing out is that you were misinterpreting the survey results due to your own biases. It's a bit like if someone were to look at the results of a survey question that asked "Are you gay?" and take the 10% responding "yes" as a sign that 90% are unhappy (rather than that 10% are homosexual).

But, for the sake of argument, let's say that the majority of Americans don't think that the government should be focusing its efforts on deporting illegal immigrants. Why, then, might a majority support not allowing more illegal immigrants?

Perhaps they recognize that the system is overloaded and we need to give it time to work through the backlog of claims? Or they think that that time might be used to reform the system and make it more efficient, humane, and equitable? I'm sure there are other possibilities, but those are two I could think of offhand.

Who said it was OK? It's a question of which aliens you are prioritizing vs which you only say you are prioritizing.

His speech on TV after the raid. Mind you, that's only my opinion, but I got the distinct impression that he was more concerned that the children were being exploited than that they were violating our sovereignty,

Sorry, I can't provide you with anything from Karoline Leavitt to support my opinion, so you better just deny it. I don't care whether you believe me or not; reality bites, as they say.
I wasn't asking you to support your opinion.

I was asking you to back up your claims with some facts.
