  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

If Evolution doesn't have morality, when will Evolution evolve morality?

It is said that whenever anyone emigrates across the Tasman from New Zealand to Australia the average IQ of both countries increases.

What a beautiful truth! I hope it is not merely a spiritual possibility that we have to work on before it is fact!

morality is subjective. what i believe is good and what i believe is bad doesn't matter to anyone else but me. is it important that I have an understanding of what is good and bad? of course it is, but this is all on my own terms.

In other words "isn't it ironic that I relate to morality as purely relative, but am still able to state this as absolute fact... and am therefore able to be moral: either way!" ?

I think you're getting it, if that's what you mean. But it would be ironic that I chose to be moral about your morality, by explaining it, if that's what you didn't mean, right? So I win, either way: because of irony!

Wow! Isn't it ironic that irony doesn't evolve, but it still does, wait, does that mean I'm being moral? Oh yes, "it still does... mean I'm moral", that's
it.

We are really getting somewhere here...

Morality (from the Latin moralitas "manner, character, proper behavior") is the differentiation of intentions, decisions, and actions between those that are good (or right) and those that are bad (or wrong). - wikipedia

no where does it mention god.
proper may to me involve worship or as christians put it to know love and serve whichbis a similar idea. it depends on how you conceive of mans essence as to whether you agree in this teleological definition. but its quite conceivable tgat we and our evaluational psychic continuums evolved.

Hey just curious here: you are still... happy to go in the other direction and say "Evolution does not ratify any moral behaviour whatsoever"? I just realized that leaving out the word "ratify" is changing the [subtext] of "Evolution is true" to "Evolution is true so we can do anything" from "Evolution is true, but it doesn't ratify any particular behaviour"...

I can develop a morality around what to do if nothing is ratified, if that is what you want. As in, assuming you discount the significance of "irony" (morally speaking) because you doubt the value of identifying "moral absence" as "fantasy" in the context of story (which Evolution is, because it relates to the Past).

You can't say neither, understand, or I will just rebuff you as meaningless and any kind of leadership you try to associate with it.

What do you mean by 'ratify'? Evolution doesn't 'ratify' anything. It explains how and why gene frequencies fluctuate in a population and the consequences of those genetic changes. It can't tell you what is art, how to live your life, who the greatest jazz pianist is or what next week's lottery numbers will be. If you have a question about something, and it doesn't involve genes, chances are it's not about evolution.

Your starting to get it, in your own logic. the "ratifying" for morals comes from society, friends, family, who either support you actions or not.

The problem lies with the definition of "moral," which has been atheized.

Morals deals with mans' relationship to God, whereas ethics deals with mans' relationship to his fellow man.

It's a good thing morals have been "atheized" [], otherwise we'd still be stuck with the morals of an ancient, bronze age, goat herding culture that thinks it important to describe what kind of fabrics shouldn't be used together, but somehow forgot to abolish slavery.

but somehow forgot to abolish slavery.

"This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the flesh and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, they are not afraid to heap abuse on celestial beings; yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not heap abuse on such beings when bringing judgment on them from the Lord. But these people blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like unreasoning animals, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like animals they too will perish.

These people are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of the flesh, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for “people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.” If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,” and, “A sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud.” (2 Peter 2:10-12, 17-22)

Some people have a need to bow to some supreme authority but I personally prefer to keep to the beliefs of my ancestors and bow to no one!

If God is the being/beings composed of fundamental energy who has planned and choreographed an infinite number of Big Bang events over nearly infinite time in the past as the Cyclic Model implies, and Dr. Stephen Hawking seems to suspect occurred...then would not investing infinite time in the creation give one a psychological connection to what one has invested all that time and effert in?????

Would not that psychological connection result in something that we could compare to emotion...which would tend to produce some sort of morality?!

Could God the Father be the most emotional being in the universe?
