I was checking out the adds for the nano bible that have been popping up.

http://www.nano-bible.com/what-is-nano-bible.html

So, let me get thsi right. The bible is so important to christians, that they want to show their devotion to it by wearing it, even though it's so small it could never be read. This means the only reason to have it to show dedication to the bible itself. Isn't that idolatry? I thought Christians were supposed to worhip the lord, isn't worshipping the bible instead kind of a no-no?

That is a bit bizarre.

In Orthodoxy, we venerate the Gospel. It is considered a verbal icon of Christ. We aren't worshipping the icon, but showing reverence to whom the icon represents.

I have no idea as to the motivations of those people who would buy a too tiny to read bible, though.

The OP has missed the point: "So, let me get this right. The Bible is so important to Christians, that they want to show their devotion to it by wearing it."

Well, that isn't why the people I know, who've bought one.

Both of them said that they bought it so it will help remind them of Bible Verses.
It is easier to remember the Bible, when you have one right there with you.

Personally, I think it's kind of cute.
No matter where they go, they've got a Bible.

I doubt a person would wear a Bible to show their allegeance to the Bible.
If anything, he would wear it to show his allegeance to Jesus Christ.

Hi, I didn't go to the link.

When you wear a shirt or hat with a nike logo are you worshipping Nike?

There is nothing wrong for those who wear any manner of things with pictures on their clothes or hats.

If someone worships the bible (having nothing to do with what you wrote) then they are worshipping the bible. I've not heard of such, but surely there are people in the world who worship all manner of things.

Christians worship Jesus (God.)

When there are people looking to buy stuff there will be people seeking to get that stuff and sell it to them.

I don't think it is of any use to have a nano bible upon me. It is far better to show ones love for the Word by sharing it with others.

As for your description of it as idolatry i think you are using an overly extreme judgement of the practice. It might be better to call it vain.

Also there might be more reasons why people would get a nano bible than the reason you indicated. So i would leave it up to God who knows the thoughts of men to deal with it.

It's a symbol: there's a scripture that says "Thy word I have hid in my heart, that I might not sin against thee." That trinket seems like a little type of that.
I'd HARDLY call that worship.

.. But why go that extra step to get an actual wearable bible instead of a cross? ...
Fashion standpoint:
The cross emblem is more stylish than a book.

Witnessing standpoint:
If you see my necklace from across the room, you may not know what the book stands for, but you'd have a good idea of what the cross stands for.

Remebering device standpoint:
1) The Bible should point you to the cross.
2) You can be reminded of both at the same time.

FWIW I don't own one of these Bible necklaces.

Edited to add: But they do make actual Bible ... bible necklaces.

I've seen those little tiny Bibles. One reason I can see for 'wearing' one is to start a conversation with anyone who asks about it, (a witnessing tool). Otherwise, it's no different from wearing a Cross or Christian like bracelet, necklace, etc, just a symbol of what one stands for.

Because we usually think of an idol as someone or something "not" having to do with God, we don't usually think of Jesus and his Word (the Bible) as idols.

You can read them with a microscope or something. I was wondering about that, too.

I see it no different from wearing my cross and pendant of the Mother of God and Christ.

There is a difference between veneration and worship.

Thanks for asking.
