Has anyone ever found themselves saying things like "God Bless" or "You're in my prayers", etc. to someone just because it seemed like the proper Christian thing to do?
God convicted me recently about the many times that I've said these idle words without feeling or without caring, just because it looked good or sounded good. I know now that I've said 'God bless' and the end of messages or emails when I truthfully didn't care one way or another if that person was blessed or not. It showed me how selfish I was and how much of a hypocrite I was to use God's blessings as a nice looking phrase with no substance, caring or heart behind it.
This may seem like an insignificant thing, but I know the little things make up big things. Although small, idle words can build up and harden the heart just as sure as any other sin. I had no idea I had even done these things until God dealt with me on another problem and this came out at the same time. When I looked back, I was truly ashamed.

God's blessings on all who read this post. And I truly mean it.

Bless you! I know what you mean! Just to bless you for your post I am giving you all my blessings, I only have like 100, but still... here you are!
lol, I know how you feel although you didn't bless me. It's nice to hear someone be real and polite at the same time, isn't it? lol

I am so glad to hear that God has revealed this to someone else!! Praise God!! I wish everyoned in the world would realized how damaging idle words are. I sometimes refer to them as "useless chatter".

We say things all the time to people, because it sounds good and it's habit. Things like "take care" or "it will be alright". If someone is having a struggle in life, this can be very damaging. When you say "take care". They hear "Your on your own." Maybe they need YOU to take care of them. Or if you say "It will be alright".. well maybe it won't be alright!!! you know??? When that same person with a struggle puts a gun to their head, and takes their life, because no one was there for them, then those same people who said "It will be alright" will be the same ones who will be saying "I wish we could have done something" *sigh* It's too late!!! Opportunity was there, and they let it pass by!!

I try to make an effort never to say anything I do not mean. I don't even ask "How are you?" If I don't want to know. Words are so very powerful. Read james where it talks about the tongue and the damage it can do!!!

Sorry Idle words is something that makes me angry. It is a sign of a lack of caring and compassion with God's people. I truly feel this is a righthous anger.

This makes me think of one of the ten commandments to not take the lord's name in vain.
Also the passage where Jesus said not to swear but let your yea be yea and your nay be nay. The meaning I get out of that passage is the only reason we need to swear or make promises is becuase so often we are careless or even untruthful with our words.
Thanks for this reminder. It was a timely edification for me.

How do you share blessings, I'd like to do that too
