but I have religious items from deceased relatives. They were Roman Catholic. I do not want to get rid of these items. It's not like they have the religious meaning to them, as much as they are associated with the people who passed away.

A literal reading of the Second Commandment says that you cant make idols or show reverence to idols. The range of divine figures that people worshipped in ancient times is quite broad. It covers everything in heaven, in the oceans, seas, and rivers and in the earth.
As I recall, the Bible prophets regarded idols as being detestable objects. Are you going to adorn your living room with them or just keep them all in a box in your garage?

Catlover, I suggest you read what adventism stand and what we believe with all the referrence about that topic, And u decide. Base on experience its not that hard to put that thing in the garage.

Im sorry if you think i am saying of throwing. The things in my garage are not for throwing, its like an attic to me. but anyway all im implying is, dont treat the rosarry as what u treat it now. My friend in college give me a small rosarry which i can put in my pocket, he said it will save me from all harm. So evrytime i encounter a life threatining situation i hold that small rosary in my pocket, all im saying is that i treat the rosary as my savior and i cant go out at home without it in my pocket."Thing"...honestly...I didn't even throw out "The Book of Mormon." and I thought it was invalid. Yeah, but rosary is different. its so sacred to them. To RC they can throw a bible but never a rosary. so by having it, ther must be a unique importance the one holding it not only because it is from a dead relative.She said herself she didn't consider it of religious importance. I'm not trying to bash prophets either, it's just that so many self proclaimed prophets are either false or not right in the head.

You need to understand an idol is something you bow down to. It can be religious or not-religious. If you do not bow down to it or put it above the Lord then it is not an idol. If you keep it in your jewlery box or put in your china cabinet (if you have one) on display to remind you of your loved one then that is o-kay.
Be ye careful of the SDA church because if you have something of value even if it is from a charished family member they will want you to sell it and give them the money. I know as I went through this with the church as I have my moms wedding set and they tried their darnedess to get me to give it to them for the money they could get out of them but I stood my ground and would not give it to them and I am so thankful I didn't. Are they an idol to me? No. They represent the love my christian parents had for each other and for their children. I hope this helps,
