I WANT TO BE LIKE JESUS
I want to be like Jesus.
'Impossible!' I hear myself say,
How dare I wish so highly
My flesh cries out 'there is no way!'.
I want to be like Jesus.
'Impossible!' cries my sin-concious soul
How dare I wish so highly
To desire such a godly goal.
I want to be like Jesus.
'Impossible!' says defeat.
I count my faults both day and night
Alas the list still imcomplete.
I want to be like Jesus.
To be just like God's Son
'Impossible! I am so weak,
So it just can't be done'.
I want to be like Jesus.
To walk in newness, clean and fresh
Meekness, boldness, faith and love
'Impossible!' moans my miserable flesh.
I want to be like Jesus.
'Impossible' sighs my unrenewed mind
Can't see past my human weakness
Can't leave negative thoughts behind.
I want to get rid of selfishness
And attitudes that cause hurt and strife,
Think I've progressed then fail again,
Can't seem to live this christian life.
So want to be like Jesus.
'Impossible!' say I, 'that cannot be'.
A still small voice inside gently whispers
'Take your eyes off self and fix them on Me'.
You want to be like Jesus?
Do you read My word and pray?
Why do you call Me Lord Lord
When you don't do what I say?
I called you out to follow Me
Called you to do My will
But in all things do you acknowledge Me,
Or are you your own Lord still?
You want to be like Jesus,
Yet the Lord of your life is not Me
Except a corn of wheat die, it abides alone
In death to self is liberty.
Beloved, I long to guide you
And show you how to live,
To heal your inner hurts and wounds
And help you to forgive.
To meet you in the morning,
To fellowship with you,
To teach you how to walk in My ways,
In everything you do.
You want to be like Jesus?
In your own strength that will never be.
So rely on My Holy Spirit and remember
All things are possible with Me.
