I think i can feel god, but christianity feels really wrong

I feel like their is a god out there, but I'm reluctant to become a christian. I'm attracted to men and women and that isn't something I can change, but christianity tells me that having any homosexual relationship is wrong. Does it really matter to God who I see, and if you think yes, could christianity just be plain wrong on this. I don't know, but if God does exist has he really given the rule book out to christianity?

I'm really confused right now, and I feel let down by christianity. If God is a compassionate person why would he put me through this?

This is probably not the best forum to discuss sexuality.

Suffice to say that Christianity has always maintained that sex is intended to be a part of a permanent monogomous relationship - that faithful committment to one partner is God's intention for all sexual relationships, so while most people are sexually attracted to more than one other human being we are selling out ourselves and our partners if we indulge ourselves freely.

Christianity has always maintained that "doing whatever I feel" doesn't really lead to fulfillment but to slavery to desire.

To comment on the thread title line - feelings are often misleading.

I agree with the above...feelings are misleading. Don't make your basis upon a feeling as your feelings can deceive you.

Christianity isn't about a set of rules. It's about God coming to earth in the form of man, living a perfectly obedient life that we couldn't live, and dying on the cross in our substitute for the forgiveness of sins. If you've ever noticed yourself doing wrong and realizing that you need a savior, then Christianity is for you. Look to what God has done for you and see the bigger picture.

And I have shared a little of what I have experienced.

God is so much more than any human relationship... knowing Him is what is important, and when you get there, He will sort out the rest.

If you want to talk, please Pm me. I am homosexual, but not practicing (is that the right term??)... and I am very willing to share my experiences. But this isn't really an appropriate venue!

You seem to have a desire, (of sorts,) for Christianity but then again you don't. I've been there. It could also be said that a tiny, trembling eagle chick has a desire to fly and yet delays to take a flying leap off of a two hundred meter high cliff while in such an unprepared state. How wonderful of the Creator to so possess such an infantile bird with both motivation to advance in experience and yet common sense not to be destroyed seeking that which it was meant to do! Of course here I am not speaking of alternate sexual habits but the knowledge of God as what you were "meant to do". All of of life though, (like it or not,) is governed by rules both natural, legal and moral just as the rule of instinct governs the actions of a simple bird to it's advantage while protecting it from harm. Yes, Christianity does frown upon homosexuality but only because the Bible frowns upon it and these statements of rule, with many others like them, are put there to protect us from harm while aiding us towards gaining the knowledge of a Being far, far bigger than the universe in which we dwell.

Get used to this idea: Advancement grows through compliance. You asked the question, "Does it really matter to God..." and all of life cries back "Yes", it definitely does matter to Him what you do or don't do. Why? Why would it matter? Because He is the Almighty Creator, a Being of infinite power, knowledge and presence who, if obeyed, would make a grand friend but a terrible enemy otherwise.

If you want to fly in the heavenlies, you had best follow the rules.

God doesn't like homosexuality. There's no real reason to believe that He was ever wrong about this, or that He changed His mind about it. Now, if you are willing, He would be willing to help you get rid of these feelings if you become a Christian. I don't know how long it would take, but making homosexuals and bisexuals straight is something He has done before - Heck, if He raised the dead, like Christians believe He did, He can definitely do that. The choice is yours, though.

Are you really expecting a Christian to tell you that God hasn't given out His "rule book" to Christians? What you're actually asking is whether or not Christians believe the Bible is the Word of God. I think it is more likely than not that Christians will answer your question in the affirmative.

You can change your sexual practices - and must - if you value your eternal destiny.

Your problem illustrates why the path to God is called the "narrow way" in the Bible. Only you will fit on this way. You can't bring along what you want, what you plan to do, what you think is good and wise. God replaces all these things with His will, and way, and truth. If this isn't what you want, well, you're going to feel just as you've described in your OP.

There is one who is the mighty one, he is Yahuah. Seek to walk holy and not of the flesh. Why do you look in religion? Seek first the kingdom. Study and meditate upon the scripture. Hold yourself from falling into temptations that are illusions lest you dig your own grave.

I'm not here to defend what people calling themselves "Christians" say and do.
I'm here to testify of the effects on people of doing what God actually says:-
repent - turn from your own thoughts and opinions
be baptised - Jesus died in your plavce so you can be "born again"
receive God's Spirit - as detailed in the bible - Acts 2:4, 33, 39; 10:44-48. - this will give you a new love, joy and peace, a whole new life and way of looking at things.

You cannot apprecuiate it properly until you get it, though meeting with people who have got it will help.
I can reccommend this London church.

One thing is attraction, but another thing is action. I am attracted to both guys and gals, too, but knowing what God's perfect will for my life is, I choose not to act upon those feelings, prefering (sp?) to obey Him rather than pleasing whatever luscious desire that might be tempting me in my heart.

Hey there.

have you ever heard of tough love?? Lets say your mum is a compassionate person, and she loves you very much. But yet sometimes she scolds you, and bans you from playing the computer etc. Does that mean she's not compassionate?? Same goes with God. [:

Does God always have to give you sweet events?? If everything in your life were "sweet", could you ever learn?? Think about that.

Your relationship with God is the most important thing, over any sexual relationship. If you put any relationship--homosexual or heterosexual--above God, then that's not the position he wants in your life. Christianity isn't easy, everyone has to give up some of those selfish pleasures because God hates them.

God designed sex to be for a man and a woman; it was a gift he gave to us, but we can abuse it in a lot of different ways. It's a corruption and an abuse of the gift he gave us, and he knows best. He designed it to be used in a special way for a special purpose (most importantly, through that kind of intimate relationship both a husband and a wife can grow closer to God). That's the way I think of it.

This saying sounds cliche and you may have heard it before, but Christianity is not a rulebook--it's a relationship. Like a parent to a child, God has laid down guidelines for you, yes. But along with that it's because they're for your own good. Sometimes kids don't like their parents' rules, but ultimately when they grow up they usually (if they had good parents) find that it was for the best. Likewise, as we grow in our relationship with our Father, we realize that his rules are for the best too. God is supreme, but he's not a tyrannical overlord we have to appease by following a set of rules; he's a Father who wants to know us and have a relationship with us.

God sometimes puts people through trials for chastisement, sometimes to help them learn something. I'd encourage you to find out why God might be putting you through this particular trial. I pray you find out, and that you come to know him fully.
