• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I especially pleased that have have this demon defeated, because I am now on a business trip out of state, and i don't have the slightest inclination to have an alcoholic drink of any kind.

I just wanted to share this with you all....especially thouse of you who may be really struggling with this addiction.

Congrats Mark!!!! 220 days of sobriety is awesome.....Just be careful in thinking that you have this beat. It is cunning and patient....a man with over 30 years of sobriety was asked what the single most important thing was for maintaining his sobriety, his response was humilty - living in and accepting the grace that God gave him every day to live sober - God doing for him what he could not do for himself.

Keep doing the work and don't let your guard down Mark

Congratulations Mark,

Sobriety is a wonderful thing, especially when you don't have to fight it. Just a word of caution though, as the other posters suggested, alcoholism is cunning. If you recovered throught a 12 step program, make sure you maintain you program with steps 10, 11, and 12. Maintain an accountability program with a trusted friend, pray every morning and night, and help others.

Hi All:

Thank you for your responses and also for your timely words of advice.

I never did go through AA or 12-step program. After so many years this body (physically and spiritually) just can't take the effects of binge drinking.

So I stopped. No clinics...no intervention...I just stopped.

Best thing I've done in my 50 years of life.

My thoughts and prayers go you to each and every one of you in your struggles for sobriety.

God bless you all.
