Shelb5 said:Humility does take effort- its a virtue where we must rid ourselves of vice which is pride to obtain the virtue which is humility. If we want to be humble, we have to practice being humble, to forget oneself and accept our faults and not have our happiness depend on how smart we are, how good we are, how rich we are
It is loving yourself as God loves you, while you are still a sinner. It is acknowledging any gift we do have is what we have received from God and not anything we have done for ourselves. That we are loved by God not because we deserve to be.
Yes, I am beginning to lay hold of this myself.Shakkai said:And I think that there is no better feeling than humility... for me it was when I quit "ranking and filing" people, to size up whether I was better than them or jealous of what they had or who they were. As soon as I started doing things to humble myself, my judgement of others became less and less... praying for them, and for myself, seemed to help too.

I heard a priest say that Humility is the mother of all graces. We can only receive grace in proportion to our humility.Irenaeus said:"Humility," as St. Teresa of Avila said, "Is honesty."
Humility is this: Seeing yourself only as much or as little as God sees you. In his sight, all things are in their proper place. In his sight, men are what they are, nothing more.
The more we acquire by grace that interior honesty with ourselves through our prayerful communion with God, especially aided by the Sacrament of Reconciliation, will we be able to see ourself as God sees us, and then through humility, be open to a deluge of graces.
Only one..."Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your selves."Could a humble man ever call himself 'humble' or would that break his humbleness?
