• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

5 weeks here after being prayed over and annointed. I just retuned Friday from staying a few days with my best friend who lives in another town, and she SMOKES,but Praise God I prayed about that before I left, and her smoking didn't even phase me! Our God is so AWESOME!

Hey all!! Firstly, CONGRATS... It's never very easy to beat an addiction, and that's exactly what smoking is... a deadly one too.

I stopped after reading a book about called Easyway on how to quit smoking, after trying everything over a period of about 7 years... I stopped on 20 September (after ALOT -months!- of mental preparation and reading that book, which also took me months to finish, due to fear of actually having to let go of something that was part of my life for so long; crazy i know ). This was done with ease and i thought can handle a cigarette, so i had one after 9 days and the day thereafter and the day thereafter... Obviously leading the way it always did once i "stopped" smoking... But i refused to give in again.

So, i officially had my absolute last cigarette 30 Sept and still going strong. (Praise God, cause this is something i definetely can't do by myself!!! ) This is the longest period of FREEDOM ever!!!!

There are two thoughts that usually stops the temptation:
1) Cigarettes puts a need there that's greater than the satisfaction it brings!!
2) It's the FIRST cigarette that started a 7 year hell, so now i just refuse to have that "first" cigarette!

GOOD LUCK & PRAYERS TO ALL!!!

Willseeker thanks for sharing w/ us. It is always a blessing to hear how others are coping w/ their quitting and to know you are not the only one that struggles from time to time.

I am 30 days smoke free. I still think about a smoke from time to time and even have the temptation of a hubby that stilll smokes w/ the ability to get one from him at anytime. I have even went so far as to pick the pack up and look at them. But by the grace of God and the power of prayer I have been able to resist.

I have everyone in my prayers that is going thru this battle.

Yeah, I am doing OK. I had 2 the other night (well i tried to I couldn't smoke them but I liked the feel of them in my hand) as I had a few drinks with my little bro' and new it would be hard not to have one (though I found it harder to actually have one once they were lit). Other than that I can't remember how long it has been dince I gave up smoking (I think it has been 6 weeks or something like) so I am feeling quite happy.

God bless, Evie

I am doing GREAT!! I quit smoking March 31 of 2004. I had a couple of slip-ups here and there, and it was tough for the first couple of months, but I hung in and I think that I'm now a non-smoker! Honestly, I still get the occasional craving, but if I should happen to give in and have a puff, it tastes AWFUL and I instantly remember why I quit! LOL Praise GOD and bless you all!

hey all just letting you know that I am stil going strong (since my last slip up 2 weeks go). Man time surely does fly. In the beginning it seemed to take forever now I can't really remember what it was like to be smoking all the time. Weird huh? I praise God that I have had such lovely people to share my struggles with. May God bless and strengthen you in your times of need. With love, Evie
