NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING on this earth matters.
EXCEPT your time spent in getting to know your God.
I liked this. It has to be taken with the context of course... not in a thread on caring for your aging parents, or changing bad driving habits.
God can provide for us in ways that we would not expect. The time in my life that I felt the most like you describe, God asked me to quit one of my jobs and start something new. After quitting, I realized that I was basically not netting income from that job -- most of the money went toward doing well at the job.
(Equipment, training, day care, transportation, work clothes, gifts for coworkers, donating to coworkers' kids' fundraisers, expected lunches, attending short meetings outside my scheduled time.)
Later, I found that God was able to provide work that paid more per hour, so I could use my time more efficiently. He bought me time. He can find you work that keeps you calmer too.
So, even though it seems you don't have time to assess your situation, let alone breathe,
do breathe. If you don't get the well-rounded things your soul needs in life -- friends, distractions, delights, fresh air, exercise -- then your body/mind will find other ways of getting these through distortions. Restlessness, anxiety, sickness, cravings, sabotages.
I know people who worked 60 hours most of their adult lives, and are now dealing with that strange question of "what is life about." Life had always been about work, but work always dangled the carrot out a little further. Satisfaction was in the challenge, but the challenge wasn't always met with compensation.
Friends who took time to have family picnics and camping trips -- they don't seem to question what life is about. They are busy spending time with others. They don't need workshops in self-revelation, because they are comfortable going for what they want, treating themselves once in a while, enjoying the friendship of others.
