How Soon?

From what I remember, and also what I was able to find via google:

Most daycares, wont accept an infant until at least six weeks of age. And this must be a full term infant. If you have to go back to work after two or four weeks then that might leave you in a bind. There are some home based daycares that might accept your young infant and there is also the option of hiring a nanny until your child is old enough for a daycare.
Then again, some daycares are open and available for infants as young as two weeks of age.

I know here in Germany we are given a 1 year leave from work with pay (and if not working, given a small stipend to care for the infant) and usually women will return at the end of the year to work, and their infants then go into a daycare, nanny or home daycare situation.

Personally, I would want to wait until the infant's immune system is further strengthened and functioning more on it's own, so I would feel more comfortable with 3-6 months than at 1 month of age.
