How should a Christian acknowledge a homosexual?

How should a Christian acknowledge a homosexual?

  • "How do you do?"

  • "How are you?"

  • "It's nice to meet you."

  • "I'm pleased to meet you."

  • "I'm glad to meet you."

  • "I'm delighted to meet you."

  • "Good morning"/"Good afternoon"/"Good evening"

  • A sincere smile combined with a firm handshake.

I think I would respond to a homosexual in the good Christian way: "SINNER! REPENT or BURN!!!" Then I'd give him Chick tracts regarding homosexuality.

...... It's posts like these that make me want to lose my Christian icon for good...

I'm really hoping that post was a joke- either way, I suggest a group hug.
Even if it were a joke...it's not a joke. The saddest part is that he's telling his truth, and it represents what many on here feel but just don't come out and say. Oh well...freedom of speech covers people like him as well as the rest of us.

The problem is, how does he know who will burn in hell? Heck, I could be headed straight for Hell, who knows. I trust and have faith in God, but God is the judge and will decide where I will spend eternity.

And that's the problem with mainstream Christianity. We've all become so arrogant that we can decide who is and who isn't going to heaven. It's like there's a whole bunch of little god's running around on earth thinking they are well... anyway

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life" John 3:16

You believe?? You get ever lasting life. Period.

"For all have sinned...." Romans 5:12

That's every last one of us. Gay, straight, black, white, tall, short, skinny, fat, blond, brunette, pastor, priest, bishop, doctor, shoe maker, banker, etc.

"That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." Romans 10:9-10

I think the bible is pretty clear on who is going to heaven (and in case you missed it, see the bold parts )

I would do them all, depending on the circumstances and if it is the first meeting or a subsequent meeting.

Also, the setting of the meeting would count. Is it at a party, or a business meeting? If it is a business meeting, a handshake would be in order. If we are meeting for the umpteenth time at a party, then a hug may be in order.

Well, this just reaffirms my idea that I shouldn't make jokes around Christians. I would have hoped the Jack Chick reference would have given away the ridiculousness of it.

I thought you were probably being facetious.

Our senses of humor are somewhat similar...

(cf. my picture and comments of "American Gothic", earlier in the thread. We Christians DO tend to have rather joyless, permanently constipated looks on our faces, don't we?)

May I ask the point of the thread?

Good question.

I'm sorry but when I meet someone it never enters my thoughts that they are a homosexual, so I have to say hi a certain way.

Do most people change their acknowledgment of a person by which sin they may have committed that day? Is there a list of how to acknowledge someone if they just told a lie a few minutes before you meet them or if they stoled something a year ago?

Does the acknowledgement change if you sinned at the same time that they did, or maybe even a few minutes before they did?

Sorry this just seems strange to me. I guess I just don't understand what you are really asking, sorry.

Nevermind, I guess I should read a farther before posting.

I guess I could understand why some people would take it seriously though. I mean, although I would like to believe that nobody takes people like Jack Chick and Fred Phelps seriously, some people actually agree with them.

But otherwise, I want to believe that people aren't as ridiculous so I tend to hope that such people are merely satirists!

Surely a control question should be run alongside this one... "How should a Christian acknowledge another person"... and hopefully, the respondent would tick the same option in both polls...

Christians should treat people as people, and not attempt to change the way they treat them based on sexual orientation... or anything else, for that matter.

We are all the same.

I deliberately didn't put in a "whatever is fitting" answer.

It's quaint, and I know it's a relic of a bygone era -- but sometimes we are to use proper manners in greeting and interacting with people, even if we don't care for the way they live!

whatever is fitting is the proper thing to do.

When I tell Christians that, they always respond, "Christians aren't perfect, just forgiven." I think that's how gay Christians should respond too. And just as smugly!
