You know if I did not realize how logical your statement was; at a glance I would have thought a Narcissist had posted it.
You may not want to engage the forums if your idealism condemns engagements with the
Poor individuals.
After all it is not ethical to abuse the mentally ill,if you are normal and can think logically.
Good for you!
A lot of people are ignorant when it comes to mental illness. I do not blame them. I just wish they would educate themselves on the causes of mental illness and not be afraid of those of us who suffer from mental disease. Not all of us are irrational and dangerous. But I see prejudice here and it is quite disturbing to me.
I agree with you, there is little knowledge in the general public in regards to mental illness and or psychological disorders.
Behavioral scientists have come a long way in recognizing disorders and sometimes in better understanding causes (usually both genetic and environment) and they are learning more every day.
I used to participate on another forum where there was a board about the Psychology of Religion. There were discussions about how certain areas of the brain light up with more activity for religious people than for non-religious people. I vaguely remember reading something about that in Scientific American Mind magazine. Anyway, in the discussions, it was actually suggested that people who are spiritual and/or religious are actually mentally ill because of the over-activity in that one part of the brain, like a person with OCD will have over-activity in a different part of the brain. With that said, the first part, contemplating the incidence of psychological disorders on this site, is interesting to me.

So I suppose it would partly boil down to whether or not you see religion as a disorder or whether you consider disorders as diagnosable as per the DSM-V. As one person posted earlier, there may be a higher incidence on the forums for a number of reasons.
I wonder how many people here have a mental illness and don't know it. That was me for a long time.
Me too, Paul 01. I knew something was wrong but it took me till age 25 to get help.

How rampant do you think mental disease is on these forums? And do you find it ethical that we often engage online individuals who demonstrate mental disease as if they are normal people who can think logically?
I would agree, the 2nd part of his statement does have a hint of narcissism to it.
With that said, the first part, contemplating the incidence of psychological disorders on this site, is interesting to me.
Well to qualify the innuendo in the statement is to assume it is implying Christians have a higher percentage of mental illnesses.
I base this on experiences with the poster.
His post have a dislike of Christian theology, being the brunt of his goading and joking about God.
The thread is a straw man to to draw away the focus of his own theology.
He is a deist,so anyone that is traditional Bible believing Christian, must have a deficiency.
As far as mental illness these forums represent people from many walks of life.
Comparatively to any other forum of discussion of a topic in general.
I see you have shortness of breath. Have you considered that you might be asthmatic? I keep away from such people. Always making excuses and coughing. I don't want some disease coughed on me all the time. Asthmatics do not trust God. If they did, they wouldn't constantly use inhalers. Asthma doesn't really exist. Show me asthmatics in the bible. They just want out of physical labor because it supposedly makes breathing difficult.
Some people are jerks and have personality disorders and/or mental illness while other people have mental illness and/or personality disorders but are NOT jerks. No disrespect to your psychology friends, but I'd take their opinions with more than a grain of salt. Our society is rapidly getting to the point where anything except absolute and total appeasement and compliance and conformity is being labeled as "personality disorders". If we can label something, we can remove the person's responsibility for displaying the traits. They're not "a jerk", they're just "sick". Nah. They're a jerk.
