  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How many Messianic Judaism kept Sunday?

Those Jews who accept Jesus and chose to follow him in the hellenistic cultural context will worship on Sunday as do the rest of the hellenistic believers - these are not Messianic Jews but rather Hebrew Christians I *suppose* that some Jews who come to faith in Yeshua and continue in the Jewish cultural/religious context might also choose to add Sunday to their practice - though for the life of me I truly can't see why.... but, then, a lot excapes me these days....

Quite a number of hellenized gentile believers that come into the MJ movement continue to keep Sunday for many years, even after they begin to keep Shabbat. Some traditons die slowly.

I'm probably gonna get beheaded for this, but here goes...

We worship on Sunday. and we feel we have good reason to.

First, our perspective on Shabbat.

We stay home for Shabbat. We light the candles, say the prayers, etc. We use that time to reinforce the relationships with each other and with the Lord. We sit down and really talk . We pray with each other and separately, and we don't make any plans to do anything...whether it's going out, having company, doing laundry...whatever...we live this day in a completely different way than any other day.

Now, for our perspective on Sunday.

We believe that Sunday is not a "day of rest", but rather a "day of work"...on this day, we work for the Lord, in the Lord's house. We view it as a tithe of our time . Not only are the hours between 7 am and 11pm a full 10% of our week, but it is the best of our week because it is after the Sabbath and we are well rested, and it is the first 10%...which always belongs to God.

Maybe someday we will change our practices, but for us, it makes sense and we have peace about it.

That is the FIRST reasonable explaination of Sunday activity I have ever heard

In that perspective, I would have to slightly ammend my original comment to state I don't understand why Messianics go to church.

Some are Kefa's and some are Yochanan's who are we to say who is who?
1) Both Kefa and Yochanan were Jewish and kept the Shabbat and had never seen a church

2) I am NOT saying "who is who" - just saying I don't understand MJs that continue in the church.... likely just my personal failing

Hey Shade -- works for me girl. I thought that was an excellent post you made ^ up there. Would that all who attend church everywhere would spend that day serving and tithing their time to G-d. *shrug* That was just a very good point IMHO.

Ah, come on Henaynei, do I appear that naive?

I am sorry my post seemed to be so obscure, what I was referring to had nothing to do with Kefa and Yochanan being Jewish or in church but rather on waht Mrs Schwarts said about her calling to celebrate Shabbat as well as attend church and serve the L-rd that way.

Maybe someday we will change our practices, but for us, it makes sense and we have peace about it.
You said that it was
That is the FIRST reasonable explaination of Sunday activity I have ever heard
and I was agreeing in my way and answering her at the same time.

I had in my mind the end of Yochanan, where Yeshua asks Kefa if he loves him and then tells him what he service of His will entails. Then Kefa sees Yochanan following behind them and asks the L-rd "what about him?" what is his job to be, and basically Yeshua tells him to mind his own business, that if he wanted him to stay around till he comes again he will, but its none of his bussiness, to just do what the L-rd has lead him to do.

She is keeping Shabbat in her home and working for the L-rd on Sunday, and sounds like being a bridge builder for now and that must be what the L-rd wants her and her family to be doing right now.

That was in no accusation at what you said Henaynei, none whatsoever, I am sorry it looked that way because I followed your post.

I love shabatt, as somebody who goes to congregation on shabbatt, I miss doing it shwartz's way. Having Shabatt for myself, rest, lighting candles, and intamacy with God and going to church to fellowship with the believers on Sunday. He has a point...but in Israel Sunday is another work day...only one day off a week.

Anyways, I don't have a problem with people going to church or to meet with the believers on the first day of the week as long as they keep Shabatt as Fri night-Saturday and not Sunday. Besides this meeting with other believers on Sunday is an Acts principle, because all the disciples were good Jews and went to Shul on Shabatt, so they met with the "WAY" on Sunday. Not because the first day was holier, just because Shabatt was Shabatt and was not a day to meet with other believers- so they did it on Sunday.

Anyways,

I don't understand what the problem with the Gentile church is, I would go in America to church on Sunday and to messianic synagogue on Shabatt. I would get the Jewish roots of my faith ( and what I believe to be the true way to follow Adonai) on Shabatt, but honestly I would get filled with the Holy Spirit and life on Sunday. I think Dan Juster's article is great about this subject.

I find the spirit in abundance in shul - and in my prayer time and siddur time - but my way is definately not the only way - fer shure! Just because I don't understand the necessity/desire/purpose/etc to go to church doesn't mean I reject churchgoers - by any means

Just because I think its funny (and to make y'all scratch your head and wonder )....

I grew up with this approach to Sabbath. This was something that I was taught...not something I discovered on my own. I was taught from a very young age....

By an elderly Mennonite pastor in a little white church out in the country.

We may spend our lifetimes pointing out the flaws in various Christian denominations, but every once in a while, they show that they have wisdom. That pastor, bless him, taught me a great many things that are of "Truth".

Isn't that cool???
