How long did you date before engagement?

None of the above.

Although we've had some rocky moments, we've been seeing how God is blessing the relationship (blessing the relationship and soulmates are two different things. I don't believe in soul mates). Based on our own individual wants, needs, and motives we're seeing confirmation. So why wait any longer?

I got engaged this month! I popped the question after 1 year and 11 months of dating (this coming weekend is our official anniversary). The main reason we got engaged is because we felt spiritually mature enough to do so. Of course all those other reasons mentioned are very important too and directly applicable to my relationship.

It's hard i was dating and 6 months after dating he proposed, I wasnt ready for it, i said yes anyway, and well we were engaged for 6 months then i broke it and we arent together anymore.

He had been hiding stuff from me, lying about stuff and i gues i didnt know him because he wouldnt open his heart up for me to know him.

So its a personal thing. If you feel you know this person inside out and can imagine living with then FOREVER then tahts the right time

One way to throw off and tease my fiancee so she wouldn't foresee us getting married anytime soon was what my co-worker said:

"You can't marry a woman until you've seen her through all four seasons."

She really disliked that line because we already knew we were ready for marriage. And in all honestly, I think these words are worth considering.

The week after my g/f decided to be my g/f, God spoke to her through a prophet in her church and told her "The one you have chosen is the one I want for you." and "In two years you will get married."

Imagine my reaction when she told me this.

The funny thing is, a few months before when we weren't even a couple, we had been kidding around and I said "Well, let's get married the 7/7/07." At the time I had been fooling around... apparently God heard us and took it seriously.

Depends what you'd call engagement.

If you'd say it's having a wedding date and telling everyone about it, then we had that about 2 months after we'd gotten together.

If you'd say it's having rings (yes, plural in this case, as he has an engagement ring too) and actually planning the wedding, then we had that a week short of 4 months after we'd gotten together.

If you'd say it's the proposal (and i really don't agree that proposal = engagement, as it's nice but doesn't signify anything official to me... it's a formality), then we weren't "engaged" until after we'd had a good half of the wedding already planned, half our premarital counseling done, a wedding date for two months from the proposal, and so on...

And as for why we got engaged, we knew we were going to get married and wanted to call our commitment what it is.

With our mixed up relationship past, we got back together AFTER we'd decided that we made good husband/wife material for each other (easier done that way, without all the romance clouding in - we just looked at each other and assessed it objectively)...

I mean, engagement is basically any day now (he had to talk to his parents before he would, and that was done about 5 days ago now), however we've all ready had the videographer and location booked for about 3 months now, and have done most of the premarital counselling (mind you we did lots before we got back together!)...

Even so, the engagement will be about 6 months longer than I wanted (ie about 9 months instead of 3), and that's only cos Christmas is a shocking time for weddings, especially this year!

Glad to see we aren't the only couple around here who did things a bit 'around the wrong way' (stereotypically 'wrong' of course!)...

Haha... nice. My opinion would be that you guys are basically engaged now... but I'll leave it up to you to define it.

Oh, and I'm not sure I made it clear, but Mark and I not only had rings before the proposal, we wore them, too.

PS- I wonder if there's a correlation between MBTI type (specifically S vs. N) and traditional/nontraditional way of doing relationships. I'm an INTJ, as strong an N as is possible, and I am certainly not the norm.

Hey I think we're engaged too, and the proposal is a bit redundant, but 'Mr Traditionalist' has put his foot down and said inspite of how engaged we look, he STILL has to do the 'one knee thing' and propose! :lol:

Hmm now i admit I'm engaged... He asked me tonite... My birthday (my real one) and I'm so happy.. He talked to a close pastor friend, and my dad and his mum and they were ok about it, so yay... I'm so happy

Tho a question... can rings be made bigger? it's his grandmothers ring, and a tiny bit too small (tho i do need to lose some weight...)...

So it's been 2.5 months..

and we did it cos we felt ready, and have felt that way for a while, and cos he got a ring and asked my parents

My Fiance' and I have been together for 2 years this Sept. I never wanted to get married again.This is my 2nd marriage and I had alot to deal with having a daughter going through this with me. Long story,personal one but I am now happy with what God placed in my life.A real jewel.

heh... i got emotional.. i asked, "is that like... i mean you for real?" heh.. then hugged him... Then said you haven't asked yet then he said well wil you... i said yes... Its juch a blur.

Funny tho, cos he did it when sitting in my fav place (at the computer) playing fav game (bubble snooker) and downloading fave song hehe... was absolutely incredibly.
