How is one saved?

I have the audacity to believe that God does not throw His children under the bus just because their free will led them not to have a relationship with Him.

A parent will always love their children, no matter who they become or what they do. When Jesus died for our sins, he died for ALL of them, regardless of whether or not we acknowledge it.

So the next question would probably be, why bother then acknowledging it then? Well, when your life is filled with God, it is filled with love, and vice versa. God stands by us when we're alone, or when we're at our lowest point, or when no one else will listen to us. When we open up ourselves to God's love, our life feels worthwhile and fulfilled.

So the way I see it, you're already saved. What you do with your life is up to you, but I believe that each of us truly wants to make a positive imprint on the world, however small or fleeting.
