If there's any problem with Scriptural understanding, one can bet that Holy Tradition, especially the Early Church Fathers' commentary and interpretation (with the Holy Ghost's help) of Holy Scripture will help rectify the situation.

Everyone has their limits when it comes to alcohol. Some people can drink three or four drinks and not be affected negatively while for others, two drinks is their limit. I know for myself (since I only drink on a rare occasion) that I will feel the effects from just one glass of wine. If I have two glasses, I'm heading up to bed to go to sleep.
So why is drinking too much alcohol wrong? It is because it places us in a more vulnerable position to fall under attack by the devil and sin since it weakens our inhibitions.
For the longest time, I myself never saw anything wrong with having a glass or two of wine at a social gathering, until this happened to me.
I was in church examining my conscience before going into confession, trying to recall all of my sins, so that I could make a good confession. I then went into the confessional, confessed all of my sins and came out feeling good that I had remembered everything that I needed to confess. As I was saying my penance, all of a sudden the Lord spoke this word to me, "Temperance." I wasn't really sure what this word meant until I went home and looked it up in a dictionary. I then realized that if I practiced the virtue of temperance, I would not be placing myself in a vulnerable position to sin in the first place.

To cross the line to being drunk is only possible through excessive drinking - which is under the gluttony sin, a mortal sin actually.

To over indulge - is gluttony - even if it is to the point of tossing cookies which is a frequent side affect of drinking - even if the tolerance of the tummy is high [like my mum who cannot throw up no matter how sick she is] to the point of illness the next day - is over indulgence.

Then there are folks like me who drinks a wee tiny bit and i get sick, which is my body's rejection of such consumption - which is not a sin because it reacts like this when and if it wants to.
Note - i dont always get violently ill from drinking wine [one glas] but half the time it might occur.
And always when i drink rum, so thats on the no no list.

There's no telling for me... with other drinks. But i have a small limit i just wont cross.

However; crossing the limit to reason - and cognitive function is dangerous for others and oneself. Accidental death occurs when someone is inebriated.

Its best to stop at one or two - and go no further.

Willfully sinning against God is to provoke His justice. One would not want God to take one at such a time as whenever one is in mortal sin. You will provoke God; you are testing Him. If not this time, who knows when? You know not how long you shall live. Man up and take responsibility for the fate and sake of your own soul.

Actually, bought a sixer of Guinness yesterday, but I do enjoy my Killian's. Barefoot wine is also a favorite.

I'm trying to decide on the pre-bottled mudslides, a couple miller high lifes, (which have been in the fridge since memorial day weekend) or a good scotch on the rocks at the birthday party after Mass and confession in about an hour.

I think I will pray over it at Mass and let the spirit lead.

Oh, thanks for the links - I see it's a red lager, 4.9% vol. Lager = cold fermentation is not really my thing. I only drink beers of warm or spontaneous (lambik, gueuze) fermentation. I'm a fan of stronger belgian beers, trappists and the like, and my absolute favourites are traditional gueuzes.
