God gave me a wonderful insight the other night that I'm still waiting on the conclusion to. But I want to post what I have here to get y'alls feedback on. It deals with how we go about believing and obeying God. In short, this goes back to the letter of Romans in the New Testament. In chapter 1 and 16 the apostle Paul describes something that imo sums up the entire letter to the church at Rome. And it's called the obedience to the faith. I believe that's the whole summary of the the book of Romans. Like I said, we find it in chapter 1 and 16 and in my opinion they stand as the bookends for everything in between. But anyway here's what I've gleaned so far. And I want to get y'alls feedback on which one you all tend to gravitate to in your journey of faith when obeying God in your daily walk.

1. The Word of God (For instance, the people who gravitate to this are the ones who will read a verse and say okay I'm going to just do this) These are the more practical folks among us.

2. From the heart (These are the ones who have received Christ and love Him but tend to live their lives in the spur of the moment trusting Him for everything. For these people, they take emphasis on verses like delighting ourselves in Him and Him giving us the desires of our hearts. In other words they go for life. But not in a reckless way of living. They also can recognize when God closes doors or overrules their intention with saying no.

3. From godly counsel (These are the Christians who put more of their reliance in hearing God's instructions from a preacher or teacher and following thru with their relationship that way. It's not like they are trusting men because they are not. But they prefer to hear from the Lord from a sermon etc. and respond accordingly.

4. From Holy Spirit directly. (Personally, I tend to gravitate toward this means of hearing from God. I loved God to micromanage my life. However, I'm in a season where God has been telling me to do more of number 2. But anyway, if you fall in this category then you are the type of person who enjoys hearing God's personal voice.

5. __________________ (Number five is still the one I'm still waiting on God to give me. What I do know is that it closely resembles godly counsel but is different. All I know is that is starts with the letter "N". If you happen to have any input on another means God uses to speak to us, please post it in this thread. Who knows. He may use you to fill in the blank for the teaching He gave to me. Stay blessed!

I would say from the Word of God or godly (pastoral) counsel. And really, those two can be very close sometimes. A pastor preaching the Word in the church -- isn't that still relying on the Word? I would say counsel is more cases where I talk to my pastor and seek guidance. And I think both are important in my life. And of course the Holy Spirit is always a Comforter and guide -- but I don't believe the Holy Spirit is going to guide me to do something that isn't supported by the Word and godly counsel. Maybe He will help me make a decision where the way isn't clear -- but in most cases the way is lit by the things God has revealed in His Word or through His teachers.

Definitely the Word. All the others are a means to the Word. The Holy Spirit guides into ALL truth (the Word).

“The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;

More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭19:8, 10-11‬ ‭

Whilst I was just overhearing Robert Jeffress from my bedroom on TBN, the Lord gave me my fifth point I was missing in my original post. So credit to Pastor Robert and glory to God. But the 5th way we can hear and obey is by hearing the needs of others.

That's all I have to add at this time. Thanks for allowing me to bump this thread.
