I... like don't want to be silly... but a couple (do they always go in couples?) of Mormons told me that about the Book of Mormon. I don't feel like that, at all. But makes me realize how weak my faith is.By simply trusting and having faith in the Living God.
This is very interesting... why has understanding not been granted to them?
If some have been granted understanding, and some haven't... isn't that unfair?
And with so many having differing interpretations of what they read... which have understanding, and which do not?
The only way to know for sure is to ask God.
That means God is telling people different things, as we are not in all in agreement.
Jesus personally told me the Christian Bible is his written word.
That is a big statement. How did He tell you?
"This one will not hear of Baptism, and that one denies the sacrament, another puts a world between this and the last day: some teach that Christ is not God, some say this, some say that: there are as many sects and creeds as there are heads. No yokel is so rude but when he has dreams and fancies, he thinks himself inspired by the Holy Ghost and must be a prophet"
My thought is that they do not have the Holy Spirit who can teach us what scriptures mean.
Well, no - I don't think it's unfair.
I don't claim to understand how God chose his elect,
but it's clear that there are elect and non-elect and the elect who are born-again can easily understand what has been written in scriptures.
When discussing scriptures, it's fairly clear to me when someone is using his intellect and when someone is using his Holy Spirit understanding.
Luk 24:45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,
Act 1:2-3 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
Act 13:47 For so hath the Lord commanded us, [saying], I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.
Act 8:27-39 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship, Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet. Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. And Philip ran thither to [him], and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth. And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man? Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. And as they went on [their] way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, [here is] water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.
Author anyone?
See! This is what I like to see. This post was made by somene who understands that some things can only be cofirmed by the Holy Spirit through prayer. We can be assured by God that His scriptures are infallible!I suggest that if you are unsure that you ask Him.
Hey, Orthodoxy -It's soooo good to see you, Brother!
Please, close this tread if you can. I think I am going to make my questions in other areas, where it is not all debate, debate and debate
Thanks.
Problem, Paul actually wrote some of those things, whereas Mohammad was illiterate....much the same proof used for the Qur'an by some Muslims.
tulc(just a thought)
You do realize that faith is based on fact? Hebrews 11:1?By simply trusting and having faith in the Living God.
Fixed.Yep it infallable. Study prophesy then you,ll see how we [fundamentalists] claim the book is without error.
Do you have anything better to do than to put words in other people's mouths?Fixed.
Every Christian says that the Bible is inspired by the Holy Spirit.
...but the Bible was written by men...
...and they sin
...and so they could be inspired but say "nahhh, I'd rather write my own thing". It might seem stupid, but every sin is so...
Actually, I was making sure Maranatha27 didn't do exactly that. He said that "we Christians" believe that the Bible is without error. I'm Christian, and I don't believe that. Belief in biblical inerrancy is fundamentalist in origin, so I corrected it. I'm completely against people putting words in others mouths.Do you have anything better to do than to put words in other people's mouths?
