How are you celebrating Lent?

I went to a United Methodist Church Ash Wednesday service, and for my "giving up something" for Lent I'm actually not, and instead, I've decided to try to be nicer to my family in preparation for Easter, which is the culmination of Lent. In an Episcopal Church I used to visit, they would only play melancholy music during Lent because it was a time of reflecting on how we can be reconciled to God. They played happy, glorious music again at Easter to celebrate the resurrected Jesus. Any thoughts?

Assuming this discussion isn't restricted only to Methodists, I haven't decided if I'm fasting from tacos or from bourbon yet. So for now, I'm fasting from both.

I will think you missed the point of the question. If the word 'observe' is more fitting, then just pretend that's what I wrote. Glad I don't go to your church.

We do not celebrate the countdown to Christ's Crucifixion and Death,
For which we are responsible with our sins...
For this we seek their remission in fasting and tears...

We do celebrate His Glorious Resurrection from the dead...
The Pascha of our Lord is the Feast of Feasts...

I am reading "BREAD AND WINE Readings for Lent and Easter" which is a collection of writings by some of the Christian greats, such as Arnold, Augustine, Berry, Chesterton, Eckhart...

This is in addition to my usual Bible reading in the mornings.

There are so many Lenten resources that it kind of overwhelms me. Interesting to know that you are reading one. The only thing I've signed up to read is a Holy Week devotional from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. I'm not really affiliated with them, but they have a free Bible certificate called Dimensions of the Faith, which I took one course from online, and they emailed me about the Holy Week thing that their professors are writing. I happen to be eating nothing but Ramen noodles and Peanut butter sandwiches, but this has more to do with me running out of money than observing Lent

thecolorsblend's fast from both tacos and boubon is interesting, and of course Catholics are welcome in Wesley's Parish -- as are Orthos

After Pascha I may get some tacos and bourbon, but not to excess

My son is Greek Orthodox as of a couple years ago -- his fast is quite strict, not just 'no meat' but no dairy products period. He has done this before. I think Pascha is one week off from Easter this year, my sister is joining a Baptist Church on Easter Sunday, i will go there

Only time I went to Orthodox service was my son's Chrismation. I liked it. That church building used to be a Baptist Church, in college I sang there in a Christian rock band...

I am feeling pretty ecumenical this Lent and want us all to get along;
I am even willing to extend my ecumenical spirit to CALVINISTS!

So far it looks like it will be nothing but spaghetti and marinara sauce TIL Easter - nothing but Ramen Noodles from Easter to Pascha, after Pascha I will get tacos and bourbon.

I'm listening to the Bible this year, I actually started before Lent, but it was in preparation for Lent. Now that Lent is here, I am glad I started early. I guess you could say I built up some momentum.

I am up to Exodus 22 as of today. I don't have a set plan of how many chapters I listen to each day or anything like that. I am enjoying it and as long as I listen to a few chapter every day, I feel happy and fulfilled.

I've been treating Lent like something of a New Year's resolution. After Ash Wednesday I've used this season to get reconnected to the church, improve on physical fitness/health, and focus just on God.

I am trying to quit smoking, again, for Lent. So far it started off great but hasn't been going well lately. Some Churches in my area do a Lenten soup supper series every Wednesday during Lent, and I plan to attend these starting tonight.

We have a small group that meeting Wednesday nights and we just started this week, first week in Lent. We all answer aloud questions like "How is it with your soul?" "Who in the Bible to you feel you have something in common with?" We met for an hour and a half and had a wonderful time.

Yea, our fast is kind of nuts. I don't even fully observe it myself, but I have my reasons.
