Bible does say we shouldn't take vows.
Let our yes mean "yes", and our "No" mean "no". Who are these two described that "become one flesh", what's the process?
do you really want me to explain the process of human copulation?

However there is no scripture that supports what so many western churches hold up as the ideal

There is no such thing as a gay marriage. Marriage is between a man and a woman Gen 2, Matt 19 Eph 5 etc.

Yawn. Same old. I can't believe that we're supposed to live a life according to words from a book that was written long ago by imperfect human beings in a different time, a different setting, different situations and circumstances, and a totally different culture.

I wonder how you would fare living a life thousands of years ago, Phinehas, especially if you were suddenly whisked away from the now to then? Or, how about present-day life among some of the highland tribes of New Guinea? These tribes initiate sexual relations between men and boys in order to create warriors. So here we have pedophiliia as well as homosexual sex. Children's Services would have a field day! Strangely enough, however, the boys don't appear to be psychologically impaired from their experience. Hmmm. Maybe 'psychological damage' is relative to one's culture also.

Anyway, how about presenting your words of wisdom from the Bible to them, Phinehas? After all, they WILL go to hell unless they repent of their sins, will they not? I mean, they ARE committing grave sins, are they not?

What I'm getting at is that MUCH of the Bible hardly applies to we of today. I mean, come on! People who fall in love - of whatever sexual persuasion - will do so regardless of the taboos that Christians SO WANT to put on them. And, those taboos are oftentimes derived from mere words from an ancient book. Why, oh why, do you and others get SO hung up on them?

Dear KCKID,

Well you may well yawn, but if that point is contested you need to address that point, you cant debate something based on that if we don’t accept that.

Well that’s exactly what Jesus says according to the Biblical account recorded by men, that His words are spirit and life. If you don’t believe the Bible on account of it being imperfect then that’s another topic for another thread. This section is a Christian section so Christians like myself will cite the Biblical testimony which we believe is the truth and which the forum FAQ’s encourage us to do.

Seriously Phinehas... we're all up to date on the references. You don't need to rehash them every time. If you want to discuss them, let's do that, but please stop throwing up posts like this and think it adds anything to the discussion. It's like turning in a bibliography instead of the essay.

Perhaps his point could be better made by the fact that there is so many interpretations of the bible and its contents.
You read it and to you it clearly says one thing. Others read it and it clearly says another. Your pastor, preacher, or priest speaks to you and describes what he reads, possibly reinforcing your interpretation and yet others have pastors, preachers and priests of their own saying another.
You keep saying you're right, THEY keep saying their right and the reasons are the same...
Do you see how this is a problem? Do you see that in light of this fact your insistence on your interpretation isn't actually doing anything for your argument?
