  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I set out on a journey
To learn and know of hope
To practice this, a virtue,
which I thought would help me cope

I started with a prayer
Asking God to bless this search
For the meaning of a command
Which with faith and love is perched

On the third day of my travels
God blessed my seeking eyes
He gave me understanding
Of why hope is such a prize

When Eve had spoiled creation
By letting sin come in
The Lord lifted this woman
To be the mother of our kin

(I'm sorry, I've not been properly inspired for the rest of this, so it will remain a bit of a cliffhanger I'm afraid - My next few verses are going to be about hope beginning in creation, being restored by God through the fall, our having hope in Jesus' death and what it has achieved, and hope for overcoming temptation - but the verses for it haven't come yet - probably because I am still on day three of a seven day journey!)

Here are my thoughts on Hope

HOPE
Here is a description of the word ‘hope’ given by the chambers dictionary.
HOPE: the upper end of a narrow mountain valley
I have found my life to be full of mountains and valleys. The mountains have been high times and the valleys times of pain and struggling. When we’re up the mountain we can see for miles and we feel on top of everything but when we find ourselves in the valley we can be bogged down, surrounded by what appear to be mountainous obstacles.

God says to us ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’. When we’re up it’s easy to see God in everything, but when we’re down in the valley and the clouds have descended and we’re walking or crawling along a road it’s hard to see Him in anything. He always gives us hope though. As we see at the top of the page when in the valley if we can just look forward there is a hope. In every valley there is a hope. In every situation we have a hope in our Lord. We must try to remember that down in the valley is where the rivers and streams flow. There is always more life down in the valley than up on the mountain tops. The valley is a place of growth and cultivation.

Let’s try not to despise our time there but to learn from and grow in those times.

When lowly I walked and mountains surrounded me, there was hope.
When clouds descended and darkened the skies, there was hope.
When I struggled through the mire, heavy and tired, there was hope.
When the rains came and flooded the land, there was hope.
When I fell onto my knees and cried, there was hope.
When I can only walk on through the valley, seeking your face, there is the hope…..
