  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

hola...

i just started posting in the orthodox forum to find out more about orthodox churches because of the Holy Fathers visit to the Ecumenical Patriarch... i realized i did not know anything about other denominations... i had a crisis of conscience after the Priest Abuse scandal and briefly tried to be a Baptist but it was too different an experience for me and i did not really learn anything before i returned to (Catholic) church... also i married a presbyterian... he converted to Catholicism and does not talk about presbyterianism at all... but those are my only real experiences with protestants... so i thought maybe if it is okay with you i could stick around and ask some questions from time to time?

gracias
annette

Bonjour Annette,

I was born and baptised Roman Catholic, my parents left the RCC while I was young, but all my extended family is still in the RCC, so I have always had contact with the church and still do.

My parents and Baptists and I have migrated into the Reformed faith and attend a theologically conservative Presbyterian Church. I would be more than happy to discuss or try to answer any question you may have.

I am married and do have four children (two are "mostly" grown) and family does take a lot of time so I may not be very prompt at times, but I am willing to help.

Coram Deo,
Kenith

Hello Annette, I'm happy to see you again! As you probably know, your husband informed all of us over on NCR when your kids were born the other week. Hope you're recovering well.

Anyway, we would be happy to have you stick around Semper Reformanda for awhile. Who knows? Maybe we'll influence you to go Reformed (OK, just wishful thinking...).

just a question to clarify: do you actually live in mexico, or are you in the USA?
if you're in the US: if attending a baptist or other non-liturgical church is a bit of a culture shock, then try something like the reformed episcopal church. they are traditional and liturgical, but also hold to the (reformed) 39 articles.
if in mexico, then i don't know what churches are there

There are Reformed Episcopal Churches!? Wow, why have I never heard of this? While I love my church and would never leave it, I seem to have a weakness for the Episcopal liturgy, and the theological liberalism is the only thing that's kept me away. If I were to ever move to a new town (which is a distinct possibility, since I'll hopefully be going to graduate school next year), I would definitely want to check this out.

The Reformed Episopal Church is high on my list of Churches I would like to visit. The nearest congregation to me is a few hours away. Louisiana has three REC churches and Houston/Katy, Texas has several REC congregations.

In Christ,

lol i am born and raised in South Carolina... we live kind of everywhere tho... primarily kiawah island (sc) and carnegie hill (nyc)... right now we are in boston because he is in law school...

im latina, my family comes from Veracruz Mexico but they left after the mexican revolution because the PRI was very hostile to criollo dons.. i still love mexico tho so i put that on my flag thing

there are a lot of episcopal churches in boston... i think that might be one of the bigger christian churches here... are there any that are reformed? what makes an episcopal church reformed? i thought they were protestants already... were they one of the other protestant groups ken talked about?
