Jude 1:9
But Michael the archangel, when he disputed with the devil and argued about the body of Moses, did not dare pronounce against him a railing judgment, but said, "The Lord rebuke you."

I did a search for the name Michael and only two passages came up. This one would not make it possible for Jesus to be Michael because He could dare to bring a railing judgment against the devil if He chose to.

Jesus is Michael the archangel(chief messenger).

Jude 1:9
Yet Michael the archangel , when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses , durst not bring against him a railing accusation , but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

1 Th 4:16
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout , with the voice of the archangel , and with the trump of God : and the dead in Christ shall rise first :

Revelation 12:7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,

This verse in Rev is Christ and his angels fighting Satan and his fallen angels as they are kicked out of heaven.

God is fighting with his word, not simply letting some of his created angels that he create to fight his battle for him.

I was in the Unorthodox room when I read from a 7th day adventist that both Matthew Henry and John Gill said that Jesus in Michael.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Hello,

I did I search through Gill's commentary on the Bible and it it does seem as though Gill believed this. Commenting on Jude 1:9, Gill says,

Jud 1:9 - Yet Michael the archangel,.... By whom is meant, not a created angel, but an eternal one, the Lord Jesus Christ; as appears from his name Michael , which signifies, "who is as God": and who is as God, or like unto him, but the Son of God, who is equal with God? and from his character as the archangel, or Prince of angels, for Christ is the head of all principality and power; and from what is elsewhere said of Michael, as that he is the great Prince, and on the side of the people of God, and to have angels under him, and at his command, Dan_10:21. So Philo the Jew (o) calls the most ancient Word, firstborn of God, the archangel; Uriel is called the archangel in this passage from the Apocrypha:

"And unto these things Uriel the archangel gave them answer, and said, Even when the number of seeds is filled in you: for he hath weighed the world in the balance.'' (2 Esdras 4:36) [emph.mine]

I could not find as clear a statement from Henry, though it does appear he believed the same. But while commenting on Revelation 12, says,

The parties - Michael and his angels on one side, and the dragon and his angels on the other: Christ, the great Angel of the covenant, and his faithful followers; and Satan and all his instruments. This latter party would be much superior in number and outward strength to the other; but the strength of the church lies in having the Lord Jesus for the captain of their salvation.

Hope this helps

strange ........ this is the view of Jehovas Witness (who deny Christs's deity)

True, but Jehovah's Witnesses are different in that they bleieve Michael to be a created being, while Gill and Henry believed him to be eternal and divine.

Gill and Henry made a mistake .............. they might have felt different if they had read this :

Is Michael, Jesus Christ?

By Robert K. Sanders

Yes, according to Ellen G. White, the Seventh-day Adventist's prophet, and also taught by the Jehovah's Witnesses. Evangelical Christianity has rejected the teaching that Michael is Christ, because it is not Biblical. It may surprise you to learn that there are only five references in the entire Bible to Michael, and not one reference names Michael as Jesus Christ. We will look at each one of them.

etc..........

this is true and would make a BIG difference in their theology!

I still don't believe that Micheal is Jesus though......

I just found it odd that there were others besides the JW and SDA who believed this.
