Is this accurate?

This sounds great! Could You show me where I can find this statement? Even though I go to confession with my venial sins every second week (= twice since general confession), this would mean that I´m quite clean most of the time, as I receive the Holy Communion several times a week?!
Q. What are the ways in which venial sin can be forgiven?
F.X., Washington, DC A. The forgiveness of venial sins is a very important part of our Catholic faith. First of all, there are two things that can be forgiven for the commission of venial sins. The guilt can be forgiven, which means the grace lost through venial sins can be restored. Secondly the punishment due to venial sins can be remitted, either entirely or partially.
Given the above premises, venial sins can be forgiven in all the ways that we can obtain grace from God. Thus every reception of Holy Communion, every participation at Mass, every adoration of the Holy Eucharist, every reception of the sacrament of penance, every indulgence gained, every prayer said, every act of piety performed in the state of grace are all means by which venial sins are forgiven as described above.
One more proviso should be added. We obtain remission of our venial sins in the degree that we are united with God by His grace and perform a good work with an awareness and a willingness to do Gods will. The more generous we are in doing Gods will in our lives, the more our guilt and penalty for venial sins are remitted.
I want to confess them anyway. I just want to be free from all sins, both venial and mortal.Steph said:venial sins are washed away by receiving the Eucharist.
we're not required to confess venial sins, but no harm in it at all, and of course could gain us a little more humility.

If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.
"As for certain lesser faults, we must believe that, before the Final Judgment, there is a purifying fire. He who is truth says that whoever utters blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will be pardoned neither in this age nor in the age to come. From this sentence we understand that certain offenses can be forgiven in this age, but certain others in the age to come." [St. Gregory the Great, Dial 4:39, PL 77:396; cf. Mt 12:31]

What did he escape from? His sins...his works [sins are included], he is escaping THROUGH the flames...
he is escaping punishment by going thru the flames...he is being purged.
God is fire.
Purgatory is a promise that Heaven is the next phase after we are cleansed by God Himself thru His firey love.
You have to read things completely and slowly for it to be absorbed.
Thanks Steph.

Yet on the same token, I keep committing venial sins.
Graysparrow, could you tell us the lists then?
Because I desire to know. If this list matches the one RCIA gives out according to Michie...with explanations, then I am curious about differences if the lists are wrong.
Disippelen said:Hey Deb, I read some of it.. I think that the basic misconception of the answers to the attacks on purgatory is the misconception of what happens between death on earth and entry into heaven.
Remember, that the new heaven, the eternal place, the new Jerusalem, isn't made yet (it will be "about" the day of judgement, (noting that time in this dimension might be quite different from what we experience here on earth) ). Rev 21:1-2
When the peoples of the Old covenant died, they got to the kingdom of death, either to rest, or to agony. Luke 16:19-31 The devil had the power of death, Heb 2:14-15, but Jesus changed that when He died on the cross and overcome death 1 Pet 3:18-20, 1 Pet 4:6, so the believers that were held in the kingdom of death were released. Matt 27:52, And future believers will not have to face death at all, because of Christ's complete work. John 11:25-26, Rom 6:8, Gal 2:19 etc.
There is a difference between the Old and the New coventants: Jesus Christ. Things changed, Heb 7:12,22, Heb 8:6-7,13, Heb 9:15.
So, there are a place between us and the last judgement. The eternal place will be either the new heaven or the lake of fire Rev 20:11-15, Isa 65:17. Inbetween there was the kingdom of death, that consisted of two parts Heb 3:17-19, but when Jesus fulfilled His work, the believers were freed from the (better) part, and will wait for the final judgement. There was no passing inbetween the two parts of the kingdom of death (Luke 16) And so, there's no biblical references for purgatory either. I can see that there are vast material for purgatory among human writings, but i can't anything that says so in the Bible, God's revealation to us.
