  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Healthcare, lets take one lie head on.

I didn't watch Obama's speech last night, but the MSM played a portion that was a bold, faced look the American people in the eye lie.

illegals won’t be covered

The CONgress sounded like a townhall meeting, oh, not the ones Obama has set up, but the real ones.
One CONgressman called Obama out, "YOU LIE"

Oh, yes. It is clearly written in the bill I read, immigrants or non-citizens here in the country in other then legal means, are not eligable.
But what the bill doesn't say is where in the process the illegals will be verified?
No where. So lets keep this debate honest. They want to lie to the people, play the shell game with the majority of peoples healthcare, just so the few that didn't have healthcare, can have it.

I call on anyone that wants to improve our COuntry, not their party. To step forward and denounce the lies on both sides.

Remember this. Republicans can do nothing to stop healthcare. Democrats have just short of the super-majority. So they could easily strong arm legislation through, if they themselves supported it.
23 or more Democrats disagree with this bill.

I agree with Obama, lets stop the lies and politics of fear.

But the Democrats can't stop lying. They play on the soft side of the American people, saying we need reform now. To end the suffering of the millions that don't have healthcare. Truth is, they haven't had it for awhile, they can wait the little extra time, to get the bill right(correct).

Obama can deliver a speech. He will get a bounce from the speech, but without substance, his bounce will drop even farther when the people figure out the fluff and sparkle has no basis in truth.

Bill, what is your account number for your insurance? Over the past decade I have had coverage with 3 different companies. At all 3 my account number has been my social security number. As far as I know all insurance companies do this. The mechanism to verify status is inherent, you need a social security number. I work with a number of legal immigrant and I can ask them what number is used for them; I suppose that Green Cards have a number as well. Bill, you are believing a lie.

Besides if verification is such a huge sticking point were is the Rep amendment to correct that deficiency?

H.R. 3200: Sec 246 — NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS
Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.

What the bill says is that NO GOVERNMENT MONEY will help illegal aliens to purchase insurance. Now if they purchase insurance themselves, or their employers purchase it for them, this is a good thing, right? Less uninsured people for the rest of us to subsidize. Affordability credits will be for those US citizens who cannot purchase insurance on their own or throught their employer. As Kermit points out, verification is inherent. I as an employer am required by law to document the legal status of everyone in my employ. When we sign up employees for our group insurance, they are required to furnish to the insurance company copies of social security card and legal identification.

How did that work out for him?
Joe Wilson (R-SC) apologized for his inappropriate outburst. He's up for censure, but he was playing to his fanbase so it probably will work out well for him. After all, South Carolina...

Illegal aliens do everything they can to avoid exposure. They use pre-paid cellphones, don't have bank accounts, use cash only, etc. Does anyone seriously believe that they would even attempt so sign up? This argument is a right-wing canard.

Not.

I have unwittingly employed them, only found out a year later when my taxes were filed and the SS# didnt match the name.
There are able to winnow into anything, and the so called program for verification just tells you the number is valid.

I dont suppose you have any facts which defend your opinion? I only ask because you continually ask this of others.

I would consider a low paying job at a dry cleaner staying below the radar. Illegals like those jobs because employers don't ask too many questions nor investigate too much. Also, you state that merely comparing the SS# to the name is a verification.

This is hardly the deal breaker sticking point that Reps are making it out to be since they can just propose an amendment to close any gap they see. Currently, Reps have at least 160 amendments in the Senate bill.

huh, Illegals can't get illegal Social security numbers?
They won't check to see if its legit. Provide the information they ask and they will qualify. It would be too costly to investigate each person, thus Illegals will be helped.

Kermit:as for your other post:

Well, I would say, based on Unemployment benefits and other handouts illegals get, they will jump at the chance.

I believe SS# should revert back to its original purpose, not an identifier.
To much information available in them numbers.

How did that work out for him?
Got the topic out to the public. The MSM would never called Obama on it.

I found it hilarious...either way. The look on Obama's face was priceless. .
Pelosi's was even better. I don't believe we should have meetings like those in England, where they scream at each other. He should be punished, but he also got the people to talk about the lie.

He thought he was at a tea party.
Didn't see how he handled the aftermath.
The only time Obama will see real questions/concerns will be in sitautions like this. They pad his audience, and make sure he doesn't get tough questions. They are really good at it too, I think Obama might actually believe they are real.

Maybe this bill, is in the 800 Republican amendments rejected?
You know the party of "no".

You seem hung up on the 800 rejected amendment, yet are ignoring the 160 included amendments.

And they are the party of "No". After getting 160 amendments included all HELP committee Reps voted "No" to get the bill out of committee. In this congressional session Reps have a history of saying "No" even after getting their way.

That's because there is nothing to call.

Wilson on the other hand ...

By early Thursday, genuine tweets about Wilson were interspersed with ads for male erectile dysfunction: "Joe Wilson Cialis $1.9 Viagra $1.1 (Web site address)"
