  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was reading JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings today, and came across this: (it's when Faramir and Eowyn are on the walls of Gondor, and Sauron is defeated in Mordor)

"And so they stood on the walls of the City of Gondor, and a great wind rose and blew, and their hair, raven and golden, streamed out mingling in the air. And the Shadow departed, and the Sun was unveiled, and light leaped forth; and the waters of Anduin shone like silver, and in all the houses of the City men sang for the joy that welled up in their hearts from what source they could not tell.

And before the Sun had fallen far from the noon out of the East there came a great Eagle flying, and he bore tidings beyond hope from the Lords of the West, crying:

Sing now, ye people of the Tower of Anor,
for the Realm of Sauron is ended for ever,
and the Dark Tower is thrown down.

Sing and rejoice, ye people of the Tower of Guard,
for your watch hath not been in vain,
and the Black Gate is broken,
and your King has passed through,
and he is victorious.

Sing and be glad, all ye children of the West,
for your King shall come again,
and he shall dwell among you
all the days of your life.

And the Tree that was withered shall be renewed,
and he shall plant it in the high places,
and the City shall be blessed.

Sing all ye people!

And the people sang in all the ways of the City".

I love this book, and I think I've read it a dozen times already...but I've never before noticed before how this song relates to our faith! Sing, for the realm of satan is ended forever! Sing and rejoice, for your King is victorious, and He has overcome death and darkness! Your watch has not been in vain. He shall come again, and He shall dwell among you, all the days of your life.

Now, just think...this will actually happen some day!!

Isn't that amazing? Can you imagine how happy we'll all be, when we see our King coming in glory, making all things new?

Every time I read the Lord of the Rings, I always wished that I was there in Middle Earth. But the reality is even greater!

"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."

He who was seated on the throne said, "I am making everything new!" Then he said, "Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true."
(Revelation)

He will come, and His reign will never end...we shall live with Him always! "I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever!" (Rev. 1:17-18)

There is such joy just thinking of that! Imagine, someday this will actually happen! And by the Cross, He has already overcome death...! If we persevere till the end, we will rejoice at His coming. We do not know when it will happen, but ...isn't it just wonderful to think that our King is already victorious, and that someday satan and evil will be defeated forever, and there will be no more death? And we'll live with Him for all eternity!

Sing all ye people!

Praise God!

Just wanted to share that, lol.

God bless.

I loved what you wrote here! I love Lord of the Rings and especially the Return of the King and Aragorn's coronation and marriage to Arwin(sp?) This reminds me so much of the time when we will finally meet Jesus face to Face. I would encourage to read the desciption of Aragorn when Gandolf puts the crown on his head. I love that! Please get back to me after you read it. (You probably read it many times. )

I read it! I love it too!! I remember the part in the movie as well...when I read that, it gives me a sense of victory and peace and goodness. lol I never knew Lord of the Rings relates so well to Christianity! I guess I shouldn't be surprised, since JRR Tolkien was Catholic. I'm looking forward to reading this book again

I've read the trilogy 3 or 4 times. Loved it. Books way better than the movies. I did take note of the many "bible-like" comparisons thru the books. It makes fantasy seems more real... a good thing when trying to keep an unreal story interesting.

Let's never confuse entertainment art with purposely deceptive art. I'm pretty sure a lot of Christian read these stories without any faith problems.

His,
