  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well, because they are the best! Well, second only to TFK and Relient K, but they are still AWESOME!! I got their new CD Letters to the president, and I definitely reccomend it. THere are only 4 songs of theirs I don't aboslutely love, but It's all fairly good. I love their California video, it always make me laugh to see Jas in that stupid helmet, LOL

Would you consider creating music an art?

Wouldn't part of that art be creating lyrics that are thought-provoking or at the least coherent? I see none of this in HAwk Nelson.

Take for example, Letters to the President, that song is the most absurd thing ever. It is as if he is trying to be serious and saying "hey, I am making a stand" but he ends up looking like an idiot. There is no parliament in the United States or Canada for that matter (the latter of which they are from).

So I ask you, why support such a band? Because the music is catchy? Why not listen to Little Jon if all you listen to is the music?

I have to agree that Hawk Nelson's lyrics aren't especially deep or thought-provoking - however, if someone likes the music, well, why not listen to it? It's not nonchristian in any way, as far as I know, and it's better to listen to than a lot of secular songs out there.

Yep. Creating music is an art of it's own kind and thank goodness in art there's never such thing is just one kind of hip style, but everything on it's own is a piece of art, whether liked by many, considered a classic, or only understood by a few ...it still holds it's own as being art, becuz in art there is no tunnel vision.

Hawk Nelson is part of the new fluff-punk but even that very-disorted, happy-side-effect version of punk understand that punk music isn't usually serious-matters kind of music ...it's just fun and crazy kind of music, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Hey, I don't even like Hawk Nelson's music.. so if I'm defending them, that must mean your comment towards them is pretty darn lame. Take it easy kid,

Thank you.

I find very little of such thought-provoking lyrics in today's music.

There are a few bands that make me think when I listen to them:

Tourniquet
mewithoutyou
Blindside
Saviour Machine
Stavesacre
Lost Dogs

So, art is anything we want it to be then? There is no objectuive standard by which to judge?

If I recall correctly, aside from the Ramones, most old school PUnk bands were very socially concious or politcally aware. Most punk bands tend to deal with social issues and not just "having fun and daTing girls".

How is it lame? It doesn't any legs to stand on to begin with.

wow now there's a kid who likes to get under ppl's skin ...I'm almost impressed. Anyhow,

Yeah so something else I remembered about Hawk Nelson, they played the Who [an old rock 'n' roll band from back in the day] on American Dreams not too long back. I saw that, that was funny.
