I never asked what sort of 'disgusting' stuff are were talking about being put on a kid's website. Of course porn and violence are terrible and no website for kids should tolerate such things. I wonder if the questioner had something more esoteric in mind, something that might offend him but not the rest of us?

successful hacking requires dishonesty.. which is not a very Christian quality.

Proverbs 12:5 "The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit."
Depending on the type of hacking, and the work that goes into repairing what was done.. the commandment of stealing would apply as well.

Hacking is a way of figuring out how stuff works, software / websites / computers / hardware ect. I hack my stuff a lot to see how it works.

Your thinking of cracking.

True enough.. I was just going along with the term used by the OP, no need for me to complicate the matter by correcting them. I used to point out the difference as well, but I really don't care anymore.

Don't most of the Net Nanny type programs prevent kids from accidentally clicking via linking into these sites? Wouldn't the porn filters catch them and block them?

I think they block out the majority of them. I know at my college, we had an extremely strict filter, however, if you searched the right words, you could get around it.

Cracking is a very old term. It's a term meant for cracking encryption or copy protection on software so it can be reproduced or copied.

No, hacking is not illegal in itself, but in this case it certainly is.

Chances are you college folks are a little smarter than kids
I have friends with kids and they are always complaining about all the sites they can't visit on their computers so I think I think these programs work well.I don't have kids but I assume that most parents have safeguards installed on their systems.

Hacking is illegal and is one of the things that I am extremely opposed to. As a person with 1 year of computer networking college, I can tell you that I knew a few hackers back in college. Hacking is never right if you ask me. If you found a site like this and that was going on, you should first contact the site. If that doesn't solve it then contact the appropriate authorities.

If I thought anyone on these forums was hacking I would have no hesitation in informing the authorites, who would soon be able to track down the idiot responsible! I believe hackers get sent to prison.

Um no I'll say it again, hacking is not illegal. Hacking something you are not supposed to hack is illegal though. If I hacked my own server would I be a criminal for doing so? Duh, no! What do you think the system security guys learn to do to protect their systems? Read illegal books and sit on their hands? In fact you can get a nice security/hacking job with the government (US) if you have the skill and education for it. Hacking is not illegal, only hacking something that you are not supposed to is what is illegal.

I definately agree with what you're saying....I know from a few classes that I've taken what kind of damage hacking can do....The tricky thing is, most hackers are smart enough to cover their tracks. They'll either do it from a public library, or a WiFi hotspot at a coffee shop or something.....so the IP address couldn't be linked to any of their information, just the provider.

What are the authorities gonna do??, shut down starbucks because the hacking came from their wireless connection.... I've heard of people doing it from the parking lots of coffee shops with their notebook PC's. Rarely are they stupid enough to do it from their home computer.
