  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just got a copy of it and it is so much fun it's scary!!!

It's much harder than I thought it would be. I'm on meidum setting and I'm stuck on the last song and it's doing my head it.....but it's still amazing fun.

The soundtrack is spot on.
The controller is brilliant.
The gameplay is superb.
The graphics aren't bad either.

I will definately be getting Guitar Hero 2 when it comes out especially if they choose the songs as well as they did with this.

Well I think i've just about run out of superlatives to say how good this game is!

To those who are about to rock, I salute you!!

It's a fun game. Needs a few more songs if you ask me, but that's coming from a person who has custom DDR songlists of about 500+ songs.

Good difficulty scaling; I don't even own the game, and I can do most of the songs on Hard mode. Night Full Of Black is one of my favorites; also More Than A Feeling. Actually might consider a purchase if the price goes down enough.

Definately enjoyable. Definately too expensive.

I've liked it the couple times I've played it, but if I buy any of these types of games, I'll get a DDR pad just because that is fun and it gives me exercise

Yeh it is too expensive but fortunetly it was bought for me as an unexpected present!

I definately prefer this to dancing games (im assuming that's what DDR is?). I don't really like them - I find it much harder to keep my feet moving in time to whats on the screen than I do with my hands.

I've got by the medium setting and have gone about 3/4s through hard although it is getting to be ridiculously hard. I'll be interested to see how a guitar player will do with it.

steverock,

Can you tell us more about the music please? Are there lyrics? Is it just instrumental?

What does the player do in the game? Press buttons at certain intervals?

The music is mostly covered versions of classic rock songs (the covers are VERY good - I didn't know they were covered until I was told!)

Here is the tracklist:

Motorhead - "Ace of Spades"
Ozzie Osbourne - "Bark at the Moon"
Audioslave - "Cochise"
Pantera - "Cowboys From Hell"
Cream - "Crossroads"
Sum 41 - "Fat Lip"
Edgar Winter Group - "Frankenstein"
Blue Oyster Cult - "Godzilla"
Burning Brides - "Heart Full of Black"
The Exies - "Hey You"
Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Higher Ground"
Joann Jett - "I Love Rock and Roll"
The Ramones - "I Wanna Be Sedated"
Bad Religion - "Infected"
Black Sabbath - "Iron Man"
Queen - "Killer Queen"
Boston - "More Than A Feeling"
Queens of the Stone Age - "No One Knows"
ZZ Top - "Sharp Dressed Man"
Deep Purple - "Smoke on the Water"
Jimi Hendrix - "Spanish Castle Magic"
Incubus - "Stellar"
Megadeth - "Symphony of Destruction"
The Donnas - "Take It Off"
Franz Ferdinand - "Take Me Out"
Stevie Ray Vaughn - "Texas Flood"
White Zombie - "Thunderkiss 65"
Helmet - "Unsung"
Judas Priest - "You Got Another Thing Comin"
David Bowie - "Ziggy Stardust"

The gameplay is similar to a dance mat in that you have play in time with the music. You have to hold down a note that is on the fretboard and strum at the right moment.

It's very fun and very addictive (in a good way )

Apparently in Guitar Hero 2 the mulitplayer mode will let several players play in a band together - one can play lead, one bass and one rhythm (maybe mulitples of each?). That has potential to be amazing.

That also has potential to be amazingly expensive. If they would bring the cost down, I would definately pick this up. But accessories for game systems are soooo expensive... *sigh* I need a job...

steverock,

Please help me. I am not familiar with "covered versions of classic rock songs"

What is a covered version?

It means the songs aren't the originally recorded versions. They have been re-recorded without the original artists input.

As I said the covered versions are VERY good quality. They have put a lot of care in getting them sounding as close to the original as possible.

Personally, I prefer Rockband 1 or 2 to guitar heros 3-5. If you google up zero punctuation's guitar hero 3 review (beware the foul language), that's pretty much how i feel about the guitar hero series after GH2.

I do own GH:world tour, and I have compared drum parts (being a drummer, this is the most relevent part of the games to me). I find that GH drum parts are much more spammy or noisey and arranged in way to be challenging for the sake of being challenging. But RB's drum parts feel much more natural, and true to how the parts would be. That's my $0.02
