Where do people get the idea that God sends people to hell?

Unless this is trick question, I think its made quite clear in scripture in many places.

Here's just a few passages. I'll just give the referrences as the whole thing would be too much:
Matt 5:22&29-30 10:28 11:23 16:18 18:9 23:15 23:33
Mark 9:45&47
Luke 12:5 16:23
Acts 2:27&31
Jas 3:6
2pet 2:4
etc, etc, etc, And this is just the New Testament. Yes, Hell and damnation are definitely a Biblical concept.

I mean it as a serious question. No trick to it.

Where in the Bible does it say that God sends people to hell? I encounter this question alot. I looked up every passage Stude presented and in none of them does it say that God sends people to hell.

It exists as these passages show.

But believe me, I think this is important. Can you think of any doctrines we have that speak against God sending people to hell?

We are naturally, as born sinners, bound for hell. God doesn't have to send us. He is the One who delivers us from sin, death, and hell by the vicarious atonement of Jesus Christ.

Original sin. I have been thinking about this since reading Luther' commentary on John 8. Here is just one small great paragraph from this tremendous work.

"Today people disdain to accept their salvation and life without cost, though the Son of God says: 'It cost Me My own body, life, blood, and death. If you do not want to receive gratis the redemption purchased with My own death and blood, then go and hire the devil to preach to you for a hundred thousand guldens. Since you scorn to have life given you for nothing, then go and purchase death. He who does not want to inherit heaven through Me may purchase and have hell with its fire and great torment.' This is eminently fair."

This is such a great work that we must learn to cry out as Lutherans: "God does not send anyone to hell."

"He who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the only name of the only begotten Son of God." Jn . 3:18

Thanks for the welcome! I can't say my name is original - I got it off a coffee mug. But I was tired of my other boring user names I've had on other forum sites and decided to have something a little more colorful! Baptist - LOL! My hubby was, once upon a time, tho. The report card thing is an illustration our pastor uses, mostly for the Sunday School and Confirmation kids. I love it.

I noticed you are WELS - we're in fellowship! I'm ELS. Nice to 'meet' you!
