Getting Wasted

I like a drink every now and then. I've never really gotten drunk, although one of my first reactions to alcohol is to get slightly dizzy, so I sometimes appear to be drunk. One advantage to having such a noticeable early reaction is that I have never had to worry about drinking too much by accident--my ballance goes before my inhibitions do. I would not want to get drunk, because it's important to me that I be in control of myself and my actions at all times. Since I don't like the dizzy sensation, I stop well before that would be an issue.

I've never been drunk because I'm terrified of not being able to control my thoughts and actions enough; getting drunk just doesn't sound like a fun way to entertain myself, even if I was in a group.

getting wasted may be a sin BUT you are so very wrong when you say alcoholism is a sin. Alcoholism is not a sin, it is a disease. I am an alcoholic that has been sober now for just over 2 yrs. It is no more a sin than cancer is a sin.

Theres a Recovery forum here in CF and it has several folders pertaining to alcoholism/addictions. You might want to check it out and read the various posts made by the christian sinners there that are alcoholics and see what its about.

I see your point of view, but one thing that I would like to note is that this is a disease that is caused by the person actually lifting the glass to their mouth... It is something that slowly destroys someone's life, certainly, but by an dlarge since it is chosen and not forced, I do not think of it as a disease. That is my take on it.

Why do I drink? Because it is hella fun. It always acts as a social lubricant for me, it makes socializing easier, especially when meeting new people. I don't know about why other people do it, but for me it is a great thing to do on Friday and Saturday nights. Let's say the night is young, say 11 p.m., and you are headed to a dance party, well if you are a little buzzed and or drunk, it makes that party much more fun than it would under normal circumstances. Since your inhibitions are lowered you are more willing to get the party started! Of course, I have had bad experiences with getting "wasted" but I have learned my limits and have yet to repeat those mistakes.

I've found that I'm allergic to alcohol; so that would be some buzz alright but I don't know if I would be heading towards a party.

To add, I didn't start drinking until I was in college. And when I got drunk (only got sick ONCE), I'd get happy-drunk, not stupid sloppy drunk (well, not usually) and only with people that I knew and trusted. It's a lot safer to do it in the confines of someone's apartment with close friends, than at a huge party or something. If I went to a large party where I didn't know anyone, I wouldn't drink that much. And as others said, it's sometimes fun to just blow off some steam, after a big exam, or whatever.

Now that I'm out of college, I almost NEVER get drunk anymore, and if I do, it's completely unintentional (once I was out with some friends, and I had just ordered a drink, when they said we were going to a different bar. So I had to pound the drink I was holding- had another drink at the next bar, and that hit me pretty quick, so I stopped after that one). If I go out, I'll have 1, maybe 2 drinks; or my boyfriend and I used to have wine with dinner- but that's a bit different.

Its interesting to come across this thread, yesterday I got more drunk than I ever have, and although I dont get any hungovers, I was contenplating life this morning, and came to a conclusion that drinking is not for me

why do you get wasted? What good is it?

Why? its a social thing, its what people do

What good is it? its no good

Having thought about this, I decided never to actually drink, unless moderatly at important occasions

Now marijuana,- that is more healthy, you are more in control, no poisoning occurs, and it feels much better

I'll take drunk over high any day of the week. I can't stand the ganj. Its effects on my baseline mental state are not at all good. It's just how I react to it, I suppose, but it's not enjoyable and it's not fun. When I first met my wife, she wondered why I was not a fan, since most people just get mellow and giggly, and what could be wrong with that? Then we smoked together one time, and she saw what happened and realized why I tended to avoid it.

I think that drinking like that is just something that kids think is cool. The way most kids drink is really nasty, but they all do it through mutal peer pressure and they have been shown through our culture that it is cool and adult.

Yes, a good feeling can be temporarily achieved by drinking, but it is nothing like real fun, and not worth the potential consequences.

I blame popular culture for not letting kids know how not worth it drinking is. They are instead told that it is this great fun cool thing but forbidden and "wrong." The people who get wasted are the same people who have sex and probably do drugs and believe all of these things are wrong but that they are also good somehow, and do them anyways.

It is shameful the way these kids go around, making noise and breaking things, leaving their messes for others to clean up. And where are their parents?

Generally the parents are next to them drinking a few full glasses of wine. There's a girl in my neighbourhood who went to the same highschool as I did, one time she had to drive her parents home from a school event because they were unable to.

When I was getting drunk regularly, I also had never tried any drugs and was a virgin. I didn't think of it as wrong, either, and didn't go around breaking things, being noisy, or making a mess. My parents were and are not alcoholics. At times, I would drink around others, though I learned to only do so with someone I trusted. None of the others I drank with caused problems, either.

I drink as it is a simple way to socialize with people around me. "Hey, let's go for a few beers" and that kinda thing. Sometimes I get drunk while out and about, and I usually find it just makes conversation become pretty silly to anyone listening in. That, and beer + wine just taste good. To that end, one might ask why drink a cola or something.
Primarily it's a social lubricant and a relaxant.
How does your cousin have a daily job if he is staying as your guest for a short time? Hospitality must work quite differently where you come from. If I was your father, I would beat his [wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth] for having a party at my house though.

I am not sure, but i wouldnt say he has a problem...just that working in night clubs when i was in University and seeing him and making him work before inspection of the grounds (my father walks the grounds every morning and expects the place to be spotless and everyone to have done their job)...I was just wondering why people do it..I have never drunk alcohol (well except for blood).

I'm not much a fan of most alcohol because I don't like the taste. I never drank because what most people had around tended to be Jack Daniels or beer or something gross. When I was in Canada I had some good mixed drinks (drinking age is 18 there) but that was with dinner and didn't even come close to getting me drunk.

I had my first run-in with drunkenness a few weeks ago at a party in Chicago at a friend's house. The guy poured me one shot of Skye berry vodka and filled the rest of the glass with Sprite. It was tasty so I happily slurped it down... only to find that when I stood up I had no sense of balance. One shot was all it took. So I stopped and didn't go any further.

I find it highly amusing that vodka just made me lose my balance, but had absolutely no other effects on me, while taking Tylenol Sore Throat & Cough Nighttime medicine will make me outright loopy. Not even a full dose of that stuff and I'm giggling and drunk dialing my friends. (Yes, I drunk dialed my best friend while under the influence of cough syrup. That stuff is /potent/.)

That makes a lot more sense.

The way it tend to explain it to people is that I don't 'don't drink' I just don't drink. I'll try a sip of this or that but I've yet to found any alcohol I can stand the taste of. And personally, the idea of getting drunk rather scares me. I'd probably hurt myself or someone else.
