[Genesis] Typing and Translation

We just started typing Genesis in Hebrew and going through the grammar of the text. It's like an inductive approach to Hebrew. Interested? I can send a link. I would just copy the lessons here, but that would require that everyone have the most up-to-date versions of Times New Roman on their systems to support Hebrew accents.

No, this is nonsense.

The word Genesis is a Greek word. It is γένεσις genesis (with a hard g, meaning "beginning, origin"), and it comes from the verb γίγνομαι gignomai ("to become, come into being"). It is based in the aorist root of this word γεν-, as seen in the aorist ἐγένετο egeneto ("it came to pass, he/she/it became").

The sis ending doesn't have to do with metamorphosis. It's a standard ending in Greek (feminine). For example, the word ἀνίσταμαι anistamai means "rise up," especially "rise from the dead." The noun that's formed from this verb is ἀνάστασις anastasis means "rising" or "resurrection." The ending sis (σι&#962 is just part of the noun formation system in Greek. It has nothing to do with what you've written above.

The English word is a DIRECT transliteration of the Greek and is not a mix of anything else.

In Hebrew, the book of Genesis is called בראשית breishiyt. It has nothing to do with Greek.
