Briefly, here's how I read the passages of Genesis 1:1~5 based on my humble biblical understanding ....

Genesis 1:1 is just a preface -The Story of the "Beginning" of the Physical World.

Genesis 1:2 narrates us the condition of the deep (dark - void) before the world was.

Genesis 1:3 documents us the bringing forth of the Light before anything is made that was made; before the world was.

Genesis 1:4 the division / separation of Light from darkness - the first work of old.

Genesis 1:5 The evening & the morning, the first day.

Notice: The heaven and the earth were still formless and void on the first day. The first formation of the PHYSICAL heaven only took place on the 2nd day (Gen. 1:6-8) and our own physical world was made on the 3rd day.

I know that I was in a deep dark void before God shined His Light in me, and that He separated me out from that darkness through the water that covered me. A New Heaven and New Earth in Him. All manner of Life now, nothing void or dark now.
And that I am in the Day of the Lord and His Sun Shines in me... His Name is Jesus

If read properly, it is all a story of our creation in Christ. Nothing else matters. The material association with time and space is worthless contention

Gen. 1:6-8 shows that the Firmament or Heaven, as God calls it in Gen. 1:8 was formed on the 2nd Day.

The narrative of Gen. 1:1-2 is speaking of the period BEFORE the 1st Day.

During the time Jesus was praying at the Garden of Gethsemane, He spoke the following:

And now, O Father, glorify thou Me with Thine Own Self with the Glory which I had with Thee BEFORE the world was." John 17:5

Glory is Brightness, a Physical trait. Jesus is speaking of His Physical Brightness which He shared with the Father, Before the world was. Before the world was can only be the 1st Day, since the first World was made on the 2nd Day. Gen 1:6-8.

This is the physical manifestation which shows that Jesus came forth into this physical world from the invisible realm of the Godhead when God said, "Let there be Light" Gen.1:3.

Scripture also documents us that there could not have been anything Made that was Made before Jesus - the True Light that shinneth in heaven in the beginning (Genesis 1:3 & John 1:9).

If one believes that In the beginning God created our Heaven BEFORE the 1st Day, then the Words of Jesus would seem to be in error. However, if one believes that the 1st Firmament or Heaven was formed on the 2nd Day, then it would agree with Jesus, and would show that Jesus came into the World Before the 1st Heaven was formed.

Actually this verse is in the present tense and is referring to the New Creation that all the rest of the New Testament is referring to;

And now, O Father, glorify thou Me with Thine Own Self with the Glory which I had with Thee BEFORE the world was." John 17:5

To read properly, "which I had..." literally reads, "which I am having before the creation" referring to THIS Creation, the NEW CREATION;

(Rev 3:14) And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
(2Co 5:17) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature (creation): old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

(Gal 6:15) For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature (creation).

It has nothing to do with the "old creation" of material things, a worthless endeavor to even consider as applicable. For all that is passing away.

Also, as a Blessing, you would no doubt be enjoying to know that the Glory being referred to in the Creation of Christ is not a "physical" Glory at all.
Moses had a "physical glory" and that was to pass, and has. Because it is inferior and incapable of being received by people. That is why he had to wear a veil over his face.

We are ministers of a New Covenant of a New Creation that has a Glory so far beyond any "physical glory" as perfectly described in these verses;

(2Co 3:7) But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
(2Co 3:8) How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
(2Co 3:9) For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
(2Co 3:10) For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth.
(2Co 3:11) For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious.
(2Co 3:12) Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:
(2Co 3:13) And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:

THIS is the only "GLORY" for Christians to be in

(2Co 3:18) But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

(2Co 4:6) For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Now THIS is GLORY worth mentioning

I am sorry my friend, but your way off the topic which is entitled.....

"Genesis 1 & 2 The Story of the Beginning."

Besides, I am speaking of the brightness of the glory of the Son of God who provided the physical light in the beginning (Alpha) of creation ref.Gen. 1:3 as He will also going to be the one to provide the physical light in heaven in the end (Omega).

Here are some more biblical texts for your additional learning and references in case you are still wondering about the physical likeness of the Glory of the Lord...

Rev. 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it (physically): for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

EZEKIEL 10
4 Then the glory of the LORD went up from the cherub, and stood over the threshold of the house; and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the LORD's glory.

Even Saul testified that the brightness of the glory of the Lord is brighter than the noon day sun - which blinded him during the time on his way to Damascus.

ACTS 26
13 At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me.

Trying to bring you on topic...

First off, the Son of God wasn't born before 2000 years ago.

Second, Jesus is not "about" "physical light". that is total error.

Thirdly, The City of the Living God of Rev 21 is the Bride of Christ whom we are born out of Now and is our Mother now (Gal 4 for one)

Fourth, The "light", as I've shown from the Holy Word, is the "Glory of the Gospel Shining in the Face of Jesus Christ".

You preach a strange gospel if attempting to make everything "physical". A worthless undertaking sir.

Again, if the "light" you are speaking of isn't centered upon the Glorious Gospel shining in the Face of Christ, it is vanity.

I am so sorry that you can NOT understand the book of Genesis. Let me try to further expain it to you....

Genesis 1 uses the word "Elohim" for God, but in Genesis 2:4 Scripture uses the word "YHWH" for God thy Maker. Elohim is a Plural Name and means The Judges. YHWH is a singular name and is the name of the LORD .

The LORD is called YHWH in the Old and Jesus Christ in the New Testament. The LORD is the Only Begotten Son of the Invisible Spirit of God. He is the Image or Physical Incarnation of the invisible Almighty God Father - of whom no man hath seen at anytime nor his name been revealed to anyone at this time.

YHWH is Jesus himself, the Son of God, -- the only God physically formed for us to see and witness at this time. He was SENT into this world and MADE flesh some 2000 years ago to save us from our sins. THEREFORE, the Son already physically existed even before the world was as I have posted previously - contrary to your view.

What makes you think that we have a different God in the Old Testament compare to our Lord Jesus Christ (the Son) of the New Testament?

Either debate or run but don't project your own weaknesses upon me. I am sorry that your understanding of the Scripture is woefully lacking. Perhaps you need to pray for more wisdom.

Here'a another physical likeness of the Son of God in the Old Testament.... for your continued education. Remember the Lord God being referred to is the Son - simply because God the Father is an invisible Spirit.

And it came to pass in the sixth year, in the sixth [month], in the fifth [day] of the month, [as] I sat in mine house, and the elders of Judah sat before me, that the hand of the Lord GOD fell there upon me. Then I beheld, and lo a likeness as the appearance of fire: from the appearance of His loins even downward, fire; and from His loins even upward, as the appearance of brightness, as the colour of amber. And He put forth the form of an hand, and took me by a lock of mine head; and the spirit lifted me up between the earth and the heaven, Eze 8:1-3

No man has seen God the Invisible Spirit of Love at anytime, but Moses, Ezekiel, Shadrack, Meshesh, and Abednigo, who were with the LORD God in the fiery furnace, will tell you that they were with our Lord God, the Son, for He is the Only Begotten Image of the Invisible Spirit of God.

Even king Nebuchadnezzar could not deny the fact that he was aware of the existence of the Son of God in the Old Testament - while you continue to deny his glory.

Read and learn....

Daniel 3
22 Therefore because the king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flames of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.
25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

There are numerous worlds made during the creation process and there are several reasons why I believe that the word used in the introduction or preface of Gen. 1:1 (KJV) is Heaven and not Heavens (plural).

The invisible Almighty God Father first Created (thru power of his logo - ex-nihilo) the materials or matters needed in order for the Son (YHWH) to physically form/fashion (with his own hands) our heavenS and earth for inhabitation, thereof.

In the context of the text, I see the narrative as saying:

In the beginning God Created the heaven (Air) and the Earth (Ground). And the Earth (Ground) was without form, (Dust) and void; (Empty) and darkness was upon the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

The 3 elements necessary for all physical form are shown... Air, Dust, and Water. Everything which is physical is composed of these 3 elements. The text is correct in showing that the water was not directly created, or spoken into being, because it consists of elements of the Air or Atmosphere. Water is Hydrogen and Oxygen and came from the Atmosphere and is not shown as a separate creation.

This is correct in today's scientific knowledge, but IF the Bible were written by Ancient men, Moses would not have known this. He would have written that in the beginning God created the Air, Dust, and Water, but since God Himself is the Author, He correctly shows that the Atmosphere and Ground were created, and the Water was not a separate creation but instead, came from the Atmosphere.

Genesis 2:4 These are the generations of the heavenS and of the earth when they were created (by the Father - ex-nihilo), in the day that the LORD God (Son) made (physically by the palms of his hands) the earth and the heavenS,

I would agree that creation and rebirth are the same miracle. But reducing Genesis to an analogy really doesn't do the narrative justice. When the original creation was formed is something that can be highly contentious, mainly because it's so speculative.
