  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's pointless to call individual organisms "natural enemies" if no other member of its genus shows such behaviour. You could just as easily say that the Tsavo maneaters were natural enemies of humans even though no other lion is.
What surprises me here is their defense of the BREED TO EAT standpoint. I guess Thomas Malthus was right all along - war keeps the population healthy and in check?

How is an observation the same as a defense? My observations are that chickens are very numerous due to the chicken industry and that "natural enemies" do not do that. Hence, the situation is not comparable. I have never stated anywhere whether I agree with this practice or not.

Definitely not my position.

Is a polar bear a seal's natural enemy?

Does a polar bear breed seals?

And as I said before, I think the term is moronic. A polar bear will eat anything it comes across and can catch. It's almost every creature's natural enemy. Seals are just snack food for it, especially in breeding season.

This actually surprises me. As I have said before, I grew up studying Zoology, and the term "natural enemy" is indeed a large part of their vocabulary.

I never said they were AV. I'm more surprised that you now have something against agriculture (you know, the breed to eat philosophy).
That's not my philosophy, Vene. It never even occurred to me that Harland Sanders bred chickens - (although, where else did he get them - duh). You guys make it sound like Galliforms would be extinct, if not for him.

In any event, if I believed in [macro]evolution, and thought we were just a link in the Zoological chain, I would indeed view this goateed animal as a natural enemy of Galliforms.

Where would I be wrong?

So, if you are against agriculture, I assume you forage and hunt for all your meals. If not you are giving consent to the "breed to eat" philosophers (also known as farmers).
Agriculture is GROW TO EAT --- not BREED TO EAT.

Where do you think the seeds come from? Where do you think the livestock comes from? Yes, raising animals is also agriculture. My genetics professor worked with farmers for the best way to breed animals. You know, for food.

This is what happens when you are proud to be ignorant, you say stupid things.

Agriculture is GROW TO EAT --- not BREED TO EAT.
another argument from semantics, chickens are grown as well. or do chickens just poof out of nowhere fully grown?

we also breed plants, we've been doing it for thousands of years. have you ever seen a wild banana? looks nothing like the ones you can buy in a store.

everything humans domesticated is breed to eat, or milk, or pick, or whatever

as i said, what is the point of this thread?

You know what else is bred to eat?

And I know you'll recognize this.

This is GROW TO EAT, not BREED TO EAT.

PLANTS ARE BRED! Are you really this thick? Where do you think seeds come from? Some individual plants have greater yields than others. Those with higher yields are saved to BREED with other high yielding plants. The BRED offspring have genes for higher yields. The cycle is repeated again and again with each growing season. This is pretty basic stuff, humans have been doing this since the dawn of civilization.
