Progressives are going to need to make CONCRETE requests for modifying the current FSG proposal. You could do it here, or some other place if you like. But what they need is specific edits. If you come to agreement amongst yourselves you will have more leverage than just throwing out possible suggestions in that thread.

Here are the current proposals:

Seventh-Day Adventist Forum

The Congregation-Wide Guidelines apply to this forum. They outline the basic membership and debate guidelines for this forum. Additional guidelines are explained below.

Additional guidelines on debate:
  • The main SDA forum does not allow any debate, either by members or non-members. Adventist members may give answers to questions asked, but only in accordance with official church statements and the 28 Fundamental Beliefs. Questions that are likely to lead to debate should be asked in the Debate/Discussion subforum
  • The Debate/Discussion subforum allows debate by both members and non-members. Those just inquiring about Adventist beliefs should be directed to the main SDA forum.
  • The Traditional SDA subforum allows for debate and discussion among those Seventh-day Adventists who agree with all 28 Fundamental Beliefs. Topics and posts that speak against any of the 28 Fundamental Beliefs of the SDA Church are not permitted in this sub-forum. Topics and posts that speak against either group, TSDAs or PSDAs, are not permitted in this sub-forum.
  • The Progressive SDA subforum is mainly for those who do not agree with all 28 Fundamental Beliefs. But the Progressive SDA subforum allows for debate, fellowship, questions and discussion among Seventh-day Adventists, other Christians, and non-Christians. Topics and posts that speak against either group, TSDAs or PSDAs, are not permitted in this sub-forum.
  • The New Adventist/Bible Study sub-forum is for fellowship and learning. No debate is allowed. Only designated teachers may start or lead Bible Studies, threads and special study topics. Designated teachers must be members in good standing of the Seventh-day Adventist Church for at least one year, must have an application on file, and sign in monthly at the sign in thread within the forum. Any teacher violating any of the rules of this sub-forum will lose their teacher status, and their study thread will be closed. Bible studies can deal with any subject that is in harmony with Scripture, however, no studies may be started that are in disagreement with any one of the 28 Fundamental Beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist church, nor should anything that is contrary to any of those beliefs be inculcated within a Bible study.
"A Special Message from your Moderators.... so you will know....."

Sabbath is our time with God, in addition to resting and worship, the Sabbath is reserved for a quiet time of fellowship and Bible study for all of us.

Dear Seventh Day Adventists,
during this time period, we kindly request that discussion replace debate, to allow others to observe the Sabbath according to their beliefs. You wont see us working reports during this time (unless it's an emergency), and while we will still be here for you, we encourage members to rest and relax with us, this creates powerful atmosphere, for us all to spend time with God.

Please take into consideration the different time zones as well, and respect that even though your Sabbath may be over, others may still be in theirs.

I am not progressive, or even Adventist. But the thing I would want to remove if I were still is this portion, highlighted in burgandy:

The Progressive SDA subforum is mainly for those who do not agree with all 28 Fundamental Beliefs. But the Progressive SDA subforum allows for debate, fellowship, questions and discussion among Seventh-day Adventists, other Christians, and non-Christians. Topics and posts that speak against either group, TSDAs or PSDAs, are not permitted in this sub-forum.

We have existing flaming rules. That proposal would just be used to limit discussion.

I think we have been pretty clear about not having the additional restrictions.

Lets make it easy is there any Progressive Adventist that wants this new rule included in the Progressive Adventist Sub-forum?

Topics and posts that speak against either group, TSDAs or PSDAs, are not permitted in this sub-forum.

It amazes me that they would even introduce such a rule from the outside.

I concur. That rule needs to be destroyed.

Also this one Adventist members may give answers to questions asked, but only in accordance with official church statements and the 28 Fundamental Beliefs.

This rule should be limited at the least. Perhaps members who have more serious questions on doctrine should move the topic to Dicussion and Debate.

Synger presented a new list which looks pretty good to me.

I still think the moderator message is silly and has no meaning in our sub-forum anyway.

I would prefer for a very free forum here. If people would prefer, we can have a more restricted.

Most importantly, we need to have it clear that 'traditional' SDAs should not at all be involved in restricting 'progressive' SDAs in what they can post in the 'progressive' SDA forum, and that they can't keep 'progressive' SDAs from posting in the main SDA forums.

I agree a free forum is preferred but as we have seen there are those who tend to destroy things by their abuses. As there really is no other way to curb the rancor of the TSDA agitators, this type of restriction of them seems the only option under the rules of CF.
