My church was originally a lutheran church. The pews really get in the way and I have threatened to sell them at our annual rummage sale. I've even hit my head when doing a metanoia. Ouuuuch!My church is on the small side with an average of fifty people on Sunday, so we all sing. We do have a choir but they are really just there to help the reader lead the prayers.

I HATE pews !

My Church is full of them I wish we could get rid of them . I'm the only one that stands from start to finish , except during the homily of course .

I even stand for the Epistle - no option I'm reading it

Regarding the Presbyterian document about posture in prayer, here is one (maybe it's the one referred to earlier): The Posture in Prayer.

I know I've read elsewhere that the use of pews is a modern addition even in Protestant churches.

I didn't mean to start any Pew Wars here with my question But I appreciate everyone's response.

I get the sense that a Christian from long ago would have felt more at home in the liturgy I attended last week, than at the liturgy I attend each Sunday. And he'd feel happier there than at most "happy clappy" services today.
