  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I got the call from the School Board today. Jesse will have Speech and OT evaluations for his sensory issues next Wednesday! Also, the agency that I applied to for financial assistance for his services sent my application before staffing today - so I should be able to call tomorrow and find out if they approved me. If they did, they will pay for 4 out of 6 sessions for each of his services that are provided by a private entity, including a Behavior Analyst. All Speech and OT through the school system will be FREE! So, I can get him a double dose of treatment and it shouldn't cost me very much. I'm praying it all falls into place! The other free service that I might qualify for is a case manager. That would help me tremendously b/c they would make all the calls to coordinate all of his services.

It feels like such a relief to be gaining some forward momentum on getting Jesse diagnosed and getting treatment going. It has got to be the most frustrating feeling in the world to know that something is out of sync for my son and not knowing how to fix it. These services would be such a blessing!

Thanks everyone. I am very pleased. I'll spare you all the gory details, but it's been a very difficult journey to get to this point. I'll even be happy with just the free services through the school board. He had to turn 3 before he even qualified for them, so now it's just been a hurry up and wait situation to get the evaluations scheduled.

Congrats FL girl!! My son had to go through developmental delay issues when he was little, so I know what it's like to worry that your child isn't developing "normally" and all the fears that go along with it. Most of these programs are wonderful and are a great help. Best wishes!

Very good! I'm curious what kind of agency might help with funding? There's a social group I'd like my dd to get into, but they don't have any slots for my dd, but if they did I'd have to pay out of pocket.
The name of the agency here is Children's Home Society.

Thanks. Developmentally, he's on track. It's social/behavioral/sensory related stuff we're dealing with. Did your son attend an early intervention program? I worked for Easter Seals and it was one of the most rewarding jobs I ever had.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I talked with Jesse's school and they are going to provide me with documentation for the evaluation.

At the end of the email, the center director made a comment to the effect of us "working through this together" which literally brought me to tears. I have felt very alone in dealing with Jesse's problems - my parents have just recently started to come around to the idea that there is a reason for his misbehavior other than him being a "bad kid". Not to mention the issues we had with child care previous to the school he is in now.

I feel like there is finally some light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm getting nervous for Wednesday morning. I've gotten some good feedback from my sister who has been through all of this with my nephew (he has Asperger's). I've coordinated with Jesse's school to get the necessary documentation from them. I've got a sensory survey that I filled out and made notations regarding specific areas.

I just don't want to forget anything. Talking to my sister probably helped the most b/c she explained what the inital evaluation should be like.

I'll report back on Wednesday after I meet with the therapists.
